Since buying my first E body earlier this month I've begun to got through the car's brakes and suspension. Just got in new front tires yesterday, currently waiting on 4 new wheels then I can take it for a spin.

New hood should be here 2moro. I'm making a list of everything else I need. There are a lot of nuts and bolts missing here and there.  :wrenching:

I had a paint party in the garage today. I found and painted the water pump, harmonic balancer, heads, water pump bolts, JB welded the pock marks in the timing cover and then went on a search and found the new hydraulic roller lifters I'd bought and the old link bars. Dug out the Lunati roller cam and sorted through 3 different timing kits and cursed the deceitful SOB who sold me a double roller kit that was actually a stock silent link chain; BUT, I DID find a new Clevite roller set, so all's well that (kinda) ends well. Got the grease off, by parts washing the link bars and cleaned up some storage marks on the new lifters and got them into a container filled with nice, new oil to soak. Surprisingly, it was only a one beer day. I must be losing my game.

Good for you! Those are precious and impressionable years and a good start to a future gearhead. LOL  :bigthumb:

For myself, I voyaged over to Guelph to talk to my machinist friend and he put me wise regarding the welch plug in the rear cam hole in the block and we discussed the large torque recommendation that Pioneer made for their main stud kit that I put in. (130lb.ft.!) Back home I pulled the oil pan off (only on with 2 bolts) and re-torqued the main studs, but not to 130 and checked all the rod bolt's torque as well. I finally got the Lunati cam out of it's wrapping, Bearing Guarded it and carefully fed it into the block for the first time. Knocked the woodruff key into the cam and installed the Mopar chain tensioner. I then tried to get the timing chain and gears on, but the tensioner impedes that and after the 4th or 5th attempt, I said POI and called it a day. I also spent an hour and a half waiting on the phone with Lunati while I prepped the timing cover and filled the big pockmarks. The marathon wait was worth it in the end as the tech at Lunati confirmed that my cam does NOT need a brass or melonized oil pump gear, so the new oem one that I've got will do the job. Yea!  The pace is glacial, but one day, God willin' and the river don't rise, I may actually get this done!

I went into the garage today with the intent that that SOB of a timing set was going on or I'd know why. It turned out that the only way to do it was to take the pressure arm off the tensioner, and then there was enough chain, just barely, to get the cam gear over the nose of the cam. Then the fun began as I spent 1/2 hr getting the tensioner arm back on it's pivot. It was a wee bit early in the day for such cussin' but I persevered! The chain is now, as my dear old dad used to say "tighter than a bull's arse in fly season" and I greased the chain and rub pads liberally. We'll see. I then started to sand out the putty I'd used to fill the divots in the timing cover, or as Mother Mopar calls it, the "chain case" and thought I'd knock in the new front seal. Yeah, right. After going through box after box of parts in the attic, it was adjudicated that there was NO seal to be had. I thought, "hell, I'll just call the dealer and get one" Wrong! As per the local Mopar dealer, the seal was made obsolete about 2006, and to add insult to injury, there were none in the whole Canadian dealer network either!! A local jobber said that their warehouse- in Winnipeg- showed one, but! that may not be the actual case! Jesus! Two more jobbers and then NAPA said they had one, and only one, so I high-tailed it out and forked over $35 for a seal made in Taiwan despite having SKF on the big print of the box. I'm sure glad that I'm retarded, I mean retired, because this is turning into a full time job boys!   :unbelievable:

Dropped the Chally at the transmission shop today for a quote to rebuild the 727 & replace the torque converter. She started leaking a month or so ago from the front of the bell housing so there is a good chance it was coming out anyway.

Doggin' it day. Finished sanding on the timing cover and sprayed it, after masking the water pump face. Later out to Regional Hose and swapped out the too long 1" barb they'd given me for the intake to water pump crossover hose and I got a nice brass one with a hex drive on it, so no more pipe wrench/scraper misery trying to put it in. Got a brass barb for the 1/2" heater hose as well. Realized that the intake bolts from the Magnum that had donated it's block were not suitable for an old style LA intake and was amazed at the variety of replacements and the wild jumps in cost to go with them. Called Kenny @ Brant Performance and he's bringing home a set of the reduced, 12 point head ones for $21. That's only a dollar more than Summit and no shipping costs. Then I realized that I don't have a water temp sensor for the new manifold and that was another magical mystery tour trying to find that! I finally found one at McNeil Auto Supply for less than $10, which was $11 cheaper than 2 other jobbers. If you think you might need one of them, best not dally, because when I called McNeil's to order a spare, I was told that one was all that was out there. Thank God there's a computer out in my garage, because it really got a workout today! Keep on truckin'!
