Has anybody installed or seen a motorized display mounted in the factory location of an e-body? Crutchfield says the Pioneer AVH-3400NEX is a direct fit, but I am having a hard time picturing how it functions in the recessed opening provided by the factory stereo location...

Any thoughts?

The dash opening on an E body is the DIN standard 2"x7" but the lower trim overhangs that so you only have 1.75"x7"... I've modified bezels in the past, not hard to do.... But there's no way that screen is going to clear the instrument cluster bezel..... :alan2cents:

THANKS!

That's pretty much what I thought.. The only way it would work IMHO is if I had the head unit stick out of the dash a little which is lame... So a standard DIN unit is the likely path. Probably this one right here:

Thats a nice stereo! I just put a Pioneer stereo with Apple Car Play in my SRT and I want one in the 70 also when its done, but that one will never fit, maybe the fold down ones, and I see there is some with a detachable screen also, that might work. Make a little holder for it by the ashtray or so.

That's really interesting! Thanks.. Your post led me to another interesting option, check this one out:

This may actually work as well...

It'd probably look a bit ridiculous in a '73 Cuda, but the whole car is ridiculous anyway ;)

There U go! The perfect solution, a bit pricey though, but Alpine is top of the line. Gotta have Apple Car Play if you have an iPhone, it works great. And there is something similar for Android phones.

Do Pioneer stereos still deliver? I know back in the days they did. What about now?

Sorry for being off topic. I'm hunting for a good head unit for my car. I'm in research mode for a few months now. I'm more lost than ever.

Don't get me wrong the net is filled with hyped up product reviews. At the moment I'm looking at Pioneer but nothing is set in stone. Along my journey I've came through a website. It's a lot different from those over-hyped blogs. It seems to be the real deal because the reviews are critical. So much so that it has put me on the fence. Just look at this avh-601ex double din review and you will have questions as well.

At the moment I've shortlisted the pioneer avh-601ex. How bad is the Bluetooth lag? And what about the AppRadio is it DOA?

I'm open for suggestions.

This is the direction I'm going.  I am not a big audiophile, but I want the car to be as complete and comfortable as possible so I have to try real hard to come up with a reason not to take it.  Backup camera, Google Maps or Waze, decent sound, hands free phone, etc.  Not sure where it would mount yet, but a motorized mount may be in the works.

That's pretty cool! Never knew anything like that existed. Thanks for posting! I'm wanting/needing something for my work van to replace the failing Tom Tom ...... pricey little rascal though....  :bigmoney:

It would be nicer if you could remove the faceplate for security reasons and to use in multiple vehicles?

I just became aware of a new modular design that may become a new thing giving more flexibility for installation.   I'm thinking a POD type mounting for the screen could be created possibly
These first offerings from Pioneer are a bit anemic of features IMO

@ledphoot which head unit did you end up with? Would you recommend it?

Sorry for being off-topic. I'm looking for a good stereo and can't make my mind up which one is the best.

There are so many aftermarket stereos that it's hard to find a good one. Many of them have one digit difference in their name. Anyways I've been reading reviews on the nets and they are all hype. Most of them downplay the negatives and hype features like 7" as if it would be that important. I've found a different blog and I've set my heart on the pioneer avh 1550nex. The thing I liked about this blog is that it says it how it is. No sugar coating no BS. This pioneer review is a bit critical. It has highlighted some flaws that put me on the fence. What do you say?

Any tips?
