Ahhh Crap!!!!! Bad lifter?

Yeah it looks that way.  I will pull the pan and see what it looks like.

I spoke with Summit today and they are send me a new cam and lifters, no questions asked. 

I just need to figure our what else I need to order and the get to it!

Thanks for the offer @jimynick Ian, I don't plan to pull the heads at this point, but if that changes I will let you know.

Summit and Lunati are very good about the warranty.   They replaced my cam even tho i didn't follow their instructions of removing the Inner springs for break in.

The article I put up here earlier, says they don't recommend polishing them.

Reason being, it's a slight hump on the face. You risk bringing that down by polishing.

Then it won't rotate.

To each his own...or be really careful if you do polish them.

Nope...not going to try that again. No idea if that contributed to the failure, but why tempt fate.

I tore it down tonight and found a second lifter that was bad. Its actually worse than the first one, but the lobe looks fine...go figure.

I am happy that Summit is replacing the cam.  They are even pay to ship the bad one back. I just have to drive to Niagara Falls, bout a 4 hour round trip to pick it up, and gaskets and oil etc and spend the time to redo everything.

check the oil pump , all of the metal went through it before the filter

@Chryco Psycho...that makes a lot of sense.

It was a bit of a pain to pull pan, but I did it.

I think I am in the clear!

The gear part looks really good, there are some slight scratches on the ring piece, but only slight.

The pan has some gunk in it, but it has not been off in 20 years.

Pulled the windage tray as well, just to make sure there was no crap sitting there. 

Now to order gaskets etc. The cam is already sitting at my mail box in the US.

Awesome  !!
Looks like you got lucky , the brgs should be fine but I would still check a couple .
The real pain is getting the oil pan back on & sealed properly .

Put the Magnets on, Button up and go for it.

It's either that, or pull it and do a total clean/rebuild

Dropping caps from under and checking...your choice.

FWIW on my end my statement was not against any of the many suggested offerings...
Mostly regarding notes the engine should be fine with just replacing cam and lifters.

My opinion on extra polishing lifters is a no. If original finish is prone to fail. Manufacturers would alter finish to correct issue.
One will never know difinatively. But seeing 2 bad lifters and only one cam lobe not bad is telling to me.

That was my feeling on the polishing as well, If it was a good idea, Comp, Lunati etc. would be doing it.

I'd REALLY suggest a hyd roller but you are in it this deep now ( replacement parts supplied) so......
