Are Mr. Gasket and Milidon thermostats the same?

I'm suspecting my Mr. Gasket thermostat is not working properly.

It was a NOS piece that looked pretty old.

I've read a lot of good reviews for the Milidon thermostat so I picked one up at Summit tonight.

Both stats are 160 degree.

In comparing the two they look extremely similar.

I tested the Milidon stat in hot water and it opened properly at 160 repeatedly, the Mr. Gasket didn't seen to open consistently or fully every time.

Anyone know if the Mr. Gasket and Milidon stats are the same?

Neither 1 is a manufacturer of stats. Who knows who the actual manufacturer is. Just find a good quality stat such as Stant and you will be good to go.  :alan2cents:

I run Mlidon 160 high flow ones and never had a issue with them. I have also ran that Mr. Gasket one and it failed right off the bat! I don't think they are made by the same company.

I believe the Stants are good quality but I don't like the restriction they cause with the little opening. In cold climate it would be fine but down south I like as much coolant flowing as possible. I also want it flowing before the motor reaches 180. Everybody has different opinions on the T stat temps and etc. So this is just my personal opinion from my own experiences.

I have Milodon 180 high flows on my cars and they work great! Mr. Gasket is crap IMO.

For you guys running the high flow stats(Mr. Gasket and Milidon) can you tell on your temp gauge exactly when the stat opens.

When I was watching the temp gauges, (factory and Autometer) with the Mr. Gasket stat the engine temp just gradually rose on both gauges, I didn't see the gauge temp drop like when the stat would open, it just kept going up until stabalizing at around 195-200.
Then the gauge would go up and down between 170-200 with driving and idling.

On my other Challenger I'm using a Summit Racing brand 180 stat.
I can watch the Autometer temp gauge rise to 180-190 then visibly drop when the stat opens.
The engine temp would stay right at 180 and not go up or down much.

Do the high flow stats work differently?

I haven't run one but it sounds like it is opening gradually which would seem to be a good thing.

I have stock gauges in both my cars so I haven't noticed that. From what i see they just come up and pretty much stay in the same place. When I check the motor with a laser temp gun it is usually in the low 180's after running it a while. I do have a 26" 3 row radiator and a Milodon high flow water pump also. This is where my gauge usually sits almost all the time.
