Update. My brother welded up my intake and did a great job & I ordered some parts from the local dealership:

crankshaft key
oil slinger
intake gaskets
valve cover gaskets
$63 total

How cool is it that you can go to a Dodge dealership and still order 426 Hemi parts a half-century after they were new?!

This morning, I ordered a set of Clevite main bearings off ebay. $87.60

Last night, after digging through my nut & bolt bucket, I came up with seven 1/4-20x2.5" bolts & eleven 1/4" flat washers.

That leaves me with nine 1/4-20x2.0" bolts & five 1/4" flat washers to buy at the hardware store for a complete set of intake bolts. Cheap grade 2's will do just fine.

Curious, what's the tab at so far.

Got a breakdown?

I've got an excel sheet going that has, I think, 222 items that include all parts needed to my knowledge. It Includes all hardware & consumable items (paint, oil, sealers, etc.), as well as machining estimates based on what it cost to do my 528. It also includes taxes & shipping, but not my own labor since that's free.  :D

I haven't updated the parts I picked up over the weekend, but I'm showing a total spent of $5100 out of a projected $8292 total.

I try to buy items in order from most expensive to least if its practical, so most of that remaining 3k is actually estimated machining costs ($750) & small items like hardware & brackets.

The most expensive parts left on the list are the Schumacher Mounts, Oil pump with external pickup cover (440source), & the Cam since I'm not using that old Isky.

I'm not familiar enough to know how the shaker should look, is it too high in the pics?

If this 484 goes into any of my junk, it will be the Challenger, which has just the standard r/t hood. I'm running schumachers in my road runner and the fit is pretty good, however, I've never had a true hemi k-frame to know how it SHOULD look. There aren't any n96 parts on my road runner to know if the height is right either.

If that shaker is on a stock intake the engine is sitting high enough for the fan to chunk out the rad shroud I bet.

The first picture is my stock configuration: top to bottom, 426 Hemi with Schumacher mounts.

Not to mention...It sat at a 3-5 degree tilt. Leaning tower of  Piza.   :bricks:

The second picture is all the correct mounts, pads and K member. Al Debevic made it in WI.

In the mail yesterday, I received my main bearings, and a set of valve cover studs with nuts from ebay ($18). Back on friday, I raided the 'grade 2' fastener bins at the local Rural King. I got the rest of my intake fasteners, carb studs, & wing nuts all for a whopping 84 cents! Besides the bulk fasteners, I picked up a case of VR1 20w-50 at $4.99 a quart for the first oil change, and a single quart of 30wt ($1.88) to use for general assembly. On the way past the local O'reilly's I grabbed some Duplicolor Engine Primer & Duplicolor Hemi Orange off the shelf. After using a 5 dollar discount card they had sent me, they ended up being about $6 each.

I also bought some hardware to build a carburetor link-bar, but I'm not ready to total that stuff in yet since some of it may get returned.

Since its Hemi day, I put in a Summit order.

ARP 200-2905                           flex plate bolts for 8 bolt crank
Fel Pro SFLMS90049                 exhaust gaskets
Fel Pro SFLTCS124602              front gasket & seal kit
Sealed Power 87135CH            rod bearings
Summit (Hastings) 133-683-60 ring set

After taxes, and applying a gift card, the total was $145

After this stuff shows up, I should have everything I need to send to the machine shop for balancing!

I'm glad you at least went steel core.

I feel the SCE copper are the best overall.

Coincidently, I looked at various embossed gaskets before ordering. These gaskets I ordered are intended to just be a temporary stop-gap. I'll run the engine with exhaust manifolds for break-in and 'proving out' the damaged block. If all is well, I'll pull the trigger on a good set of TTI's the next driving season.

I've actually run these gaskets before, with these manifolds, on my 528 previously. They sealed up OK, but didn't last like they should have. Its hard to argue with their price for a temporary gasket though. ($10!)

It says they're steel core... but I think they're just mislabeled cheap composite gaskets. I'll try to double check them for folks reading this thread.

With manifolds I prefer not to use any gasket just a thin layer of Ultra Copper silicone , Gaskets just cause more problems than they solve  :alan2cents:

Short Update

The new cam is on order & I'm going to try to re-use my old 440 oil pump & oil pump bolts since its low miles. After poking around the damaged internal oil pickup boss in the block, it looks like there is plenty of casting deeper down that I can run a tap in & use an internal pickup. Thus, avoiding the expense of running an external system. If it can be made to work, it would be a SIGNIFICANT savings!

I'd like to run a factory style 6qt pan, but I'm unsure of where to source the pickup to fit the 4.15" stroke & factory rods, need to mock-up & check...

Another potential hiccup

I suspected the block had been decked a bit, given its racing past, but I didn't anticipate how severe it could be! Just crudely measuring with a yard stick and calipers I came up with 10.565"! Hopefully it isn't THAT short, mocking up the rotating assembly will reveal the truth.

If it's truly as short as that, I'm thinking I'll have my workplace plasma cut a couple .125" deck spacer plates that can be used in conjunction with 2 sets of steel shim head gaskets (.022" each). Thoughts?

Chryco Psycho

Cometic will make you gaskets that thick , it is already a 3 layer gasket & the middle shim cam be cut the the thickness you need .
Can you run the stock pickup tube & just squeeze the tube where it goes past the counterweights for clearance ?

My brother, my cousin, & I went to the Monster Mopar show, swap, & drag race this weekend. I came up with a few miscellaneous items left on the list:

Factory 66-69 breather-$1
Distributor Clamp--------$1
Timing Cover--------------$3
Alternator Bracket-------$3
Dipstick & Tube----------$2.50
6qt Oil Pan----------------$20
Dual Feed Fuel Line-----$2
Water Pump Neck--------$1

I was expecting to buy an oval air cleaner lid off ebay for $125 but it turns out my cousin had whole assembly he wasn't using & sold it to me for $100!

All this knocked a huge chunk out of the estimated total, unfortunately I found the used Carter fuel pump I planned on buying was no longer available, so that hurt the estimated total.

Nevertheless, I've trimmed the estimated total down to just $7810.

Also, my brother brought a set of 12" dial calipers to the shop, & we took a more accurate measurement for deck height.

We got 10.64". Still pretty short, but quite a bit better than what I thought initially.

Chryco Psycho

That is cool picking up a lot of parts for next to nothing !
