The kit from brewers is now about 6k complete.
I priced one out a few months back. The hardware no trans alone with shipping was 5400

I'd like to know where you can find all this for 1500 because I'd be interested in finding one for my b body

my only recommendation if you are purchasing a used manual tranny, specifically with unknown miles, is to have it looked over by someone who knows the tranny, to make sure it doesn't need rebuilt.  Better to do with the tranny out, in advance, than after installed, and start having problems with it.  Excessive play, worn synchro teeth on 2nd and 3rd gears, etc.

Like stated before, if running 3.23 rear gears, you'll have a great cruiser, and some performance fun.  If I were looking for a 5 speed ( 4 speed w overdrive), I'd check out a T5 swap.  There are a gazillion of them, reasonably priced, and they shift very nice.

the reason i mentioned the 545 is because there was a guy selling on for $400 rebuilt, thought that was pretty cheap

Don't know that I'd want to mess with a T5. Those things had trouble living long lives behind the high output 5.0 engines of the '80s. If 180 net horses will do a number on them, anything more than that is potential for frequent replacements...unless you really only use it as a cruiser and never hammer on it.

OP, yea the 3.91s and a 4spd would be great around town.

Since you have a small block, the ar5 trans and a Dakota v6 bellhousing would be a good budget 5spd, hydraulic clutch setup though.

So the dakota v6 bell housing will fit a 318?
Also, will a a833 from a slant 6 d100 work in my 73 challenger 318?
