Helping a buddy with a 55 T-Bird. Just a fix, not rebuilding the engine. A valve was stuck and the pushrod got bent. Is this valve seat too far gone to be grinded with compound? Not sure if I have to leave it to a machine shop or not. Looking for a cheap solution. I need a new valve, and a pushrod, not sure about the lifter, can't get to those from the top in this engine. It's a 292 Y-block.

I'm not an engine expert, but that looks like it's going to need some machining.  I hate doing things twice, so I would be having a machine shop taker a peek.  :alan2cents:

Can you try to lap it and do some sort of seal check (plexiglass over head surface and pressure test via spark plug hole)?

Chryco Psycho

I would install hard seats while it is apart , far cheaper than tearing into it again

What Psycho said. You can't backyard that one and if it has to go to a shop anyway you might as well fix it for life.

Yeah, I told my friend to change all the seats so he can run regular gas without adding the lead substitute, but he wanted a quick fix. I'll tell him again...

Quick fix is find another head, don't think it's to hard to find one or two in Sweden.

True, lot of old Fords here...

Best fix for that car is swap in a 5.0 HO EFI... Takes 200 lbs off the nose & doubles the horsepower...
