Vaccines work great if they guess correctly.

Dang bugger keep mutating. My wife got the shot and still got the flu and sick as heck.

I'm 59 yo, never had a flu shot, never missed a day working construction ,for 41 years outside , due to sickness.
Being outside may help as any germs may spread out from people rather than staying in a building getting picked up by others.
I am fine with the vaccines for the other things but think for the flu not so much.

I've never gotten and never will get a flu shot. To me, there are too many strains to protect against. I did, however, get appendicitis yesterday. That was not fun at all.

I almost died last January from the flue 33 days back and forth from the hospital and yes my immune system was compromised from a medical issue years earlier. It was the second time in 10 years that I forgot to get the shot and both times I contracted the flue. I got my shot when they were first available this year and so far my wife, daughter, and grandson  have all caught it but not me. None of them went and got a shot and I know I'll never miss another one.  :)

Someone I spoke to recently said almost the same thing you said.

I never get the flu shot (not confident in their ability to guess) and don't remember the last time I got  the flu. I got it now. I don't remember having chills like this. It appears my oldest daughter is getting  it now. :crying:

One of the big problems this particular "Flu Season" is that another Virus that is not the flu is also going around at the same time.
Also, it has similar symptoms to the flu further complicating things.

Well, going by this poll's numbers, the 'epidemic' is actually barely an 'outbreak', or maybe it's just 'normal life' with a few people getting the flu? And they are fine after a day or two.

It's just the way the news is reported. Trying to make it 'bigger' than it really is.

I think it's clear this is a bad flu season.  But yes the media is sensationalizing it.  It makes me paranoid, I sometimes start to get cold symptoms, and this year it's happened a few times including the last few days. I get all worried after reading in the news about some healthy kid or young adult getting minor symptoms, then a day later being in the emergency room, then soon dying.
I woke up Thursday with a sore throat.  OMG I may be dead by tomorrow!  But now it's Saturday, I'm still feeling a bit under the weather but hey, I'm still alive!  But maybe I'm still not in the clear...I may not last the weekend. Oh no!  I hope I make it!

Ya know when you get those weird sneezes that feel like a worm is drilling in?
That's the one's you're coming down with something?  :dunno:
Squinting after with one eye?

I think those are the one's it's something coming on.

I've had it happen 3 or 4 times since December.
No pollen here so it's had to be a body reaction fighting back.

Thanks Randy!  Nice to know folks here are praying for me.
If I don't post for another 3 or 4 days, assume the worst and I hope someone nearby will come by and salvage the spare parts I have stashed here before my dimwit non car guy brother in law comes by and tosses it all in the trash!

I don't like flu shots. I've had 1 several years ago and it made me ill.  I'll tell ya, I rarely get sick but on New years day I started to feel bad. Went to work the next day and a half a day following and thought I was dying.  :barf: Got a little better after 5 days then wham! Pneumonia. I went home after the confirming x-ray with meds and was back to the hospital emergency room within 4 hours. Sick as hell and couldn't breath. Doctors found sepsis was setting in. I couldn't get a room because the hospital was full here in Castle Rock. Final ICU agreed to provide a bed for a day while they pumped me full of everything. Went home after 24 hours to sweat this out in peace and quiet.  Missed 3 weeks of work and this week is the first week that I've been working a full day.  I'm grateful to be better again and thankful that the doctors were on their toes when I came in.  the only thing I'm mad about is I haven't touched my car since Christmas! much less been on the boards here.

My only bit of advice is that if you start getting sick this year, pay close attention if it feels a bit worse than your previous bout with a cold or flu.

The grade school I went to closed for the week......  over 30% of the school sick...  :bricks:
