My son took a job 400 miles away when he was 18. I was sad he left early but at the same time I was proud that he was independant and chasing where the money is. That's why we raise them to stand on their own. I let him know I could lend him $$$ if he needed help for a downpayment on his mortgage when he was 22, he didn't need my help.

Not exactly the same story with me, but pretty close.
Sad he left so early, proud he stands on his own two feet.
