Just remember that everything is "just a phase" ....My wife would get so mad when I would say that, but it's true....If your child is doing something that you can't stand like waking up through the night....throwing up food, throwing food, teething.....these are just phases....they don't last forever....My son developed "night terrors"...that was a scary one...Google it... , but again "just a phase honey"

I have one piece of advise that I always give to new parents.

Enjoy them when they are little, you will blink and the will be grown.

My daughter turns 20 and my son 13 in Feb.  It truly feels like yesterday when the were each born.

I wished I spent more time with them at every stage.

I read a quote recently that said:

The days are long, but the years are short.

It is applicable in life and even more so in parenting.

My girls are 36 and 29 ... I don't know how they got to be that old so quickly ...

It's probably too late but what works for our family is bringing them home from the hospital in a Hemi. Mom and Dad brought me home in a 1953 New Yorker Deluxe and I brought Sean home in the FM3 Challenger R/T (that at that time had a Hemi swapped in). When I was bringing my Hemi Cuda back from past dead I would sit in it with Sean on my lap and let him row the gears on the pistol grip. Busy hands stay out of trouble and he spends his extra time in the shop 26 years later creating things and staying out of trouble.

This is a wonderful thread and some amazing photos to go along with all the great advice.     It's been a long first few days with very little sleep.  Both mom and baby are doing good and we're starting to find a new normal now after being home a couple days.

Hi enthusiasts.......Slant6 Al here, thought I'd add a reply myself, after reading all of your individual parenting experiences. It's so easy to become distracted in life that we lose track of why we brought our children into our lives. I've always remembered the song " The cats in the cradle" this to me truly applies to parenting, listen to it sometime you'll agree. I myself am a member on the other end of parenting, my wife and I have raised 2 sons through trials, tribulations and sacrifices. Our boys are well established in their careers, and their marriages, and are in their early 40's, this has made my wife and I very proud. They have blessed us with 5 grandchildren (2-11 years old) my wife and I were present at each birth at the hospital. I can definitely say we did something right. I believe that's all I need to say. I think Jason said it well. Cherish every moment. They grow up fast.

My tidbit of advise is to let them develop into themselves. Guidance and discipline go hand in hand. As for health and germs. Dont over protect them as they will always find a way to bypass it.
I have only single daughter. Early years we spent many days and nights in hospitals visiting other family members. We kept her close to us to limit germ exposure. One time out of the blue she walks up to the sink and licked it...
Their sole job in life is to find your limits. Keep it a moving target.
