I remember this picture and I'm still curious why there's a '51 plate on a '55 car? 

CA used to stamp plates with the year the series started.  These black plates started in 51.  The next plates started in 56 and were yellow with black letters and are stamped 56.  Stamping the starting year of the series stopped with the next plates that were Black with Yellow letters.
