Sad , really dumb place & time to be doing that .

Tragic for all involved. I remember when I quit, I was racing against a bike and I grabbed third. A light bulb went off in my head that third meant 100MPH. That's when I quit.

Bayshore is a very scenic road in that area. Very active with joggers, walkers, etc. It is a tragedy that everyone will have to live with. Sad why sometimes youth don't use their heads better. The City's answer now is they are lowering the speed limit from 40 to 35. That's not going to solve it. If they're not worried about 40 why would 35 be any different.

I know I can look back on a few occasions, and say, "That was really dumb what I just did"

When I was young I did some street racing but never anywhere like that.  We went out to unused roads by the river.  The people who did this deserve what happens to them.  They make all car people look bad.  :pullinghair:  :pullinghair:  :pullinghair:.  I feel so bad for the loss the family will feel  :andyangel:

Yup... We had/have a few roads behind the industrial parks & way out in the country with marked 1/4 miles...   You want to do stupid stuff take it out in the sticks away from people.... You do something like that in town & it's not just your life your risking..... They deserve any punishment they get & likely more..... Stupid....

First off tragic loss of life. I'm sure as some admitted that we've all made poor decisions in the past and were fortunate that nothing happened.  Not even the best parents can teach their kids not to make dumb decisions. It's unfortunate that they learned this lesson in a way that has killed innocent bystanders, and will no doubt end their life as they know it. Even back roads can be dangerous. Now that I'm older and wiser, the track it is.

Curious your thoughts on the article. Passengers are considered "willing participants." Pretty tough to be a passenger and have fault. It's usually not hop in the car lets go street race. It's more of a spontaneous thing (usually). What options do you have? Jump out of a moving car and risk death? Or take your chances? As a passenger I had a friend run from the cops over speeding when I was younger. I was pretty vocal that he pull over. by the time I voiced my concerns we were doing 130mph. Should I be arrested as a willing participant? Yes we were eventually stopped. Yes he was in a ton of trouble, but sure glad I wasn't.

I also understand that for legal reasons you can't, but not all people have access to drag strips. I've never seen one before growing up. My avenue was back roads and again, fortunate that nothing happened. It would be nice if more cities or counties had a few days a year at a local runway to get this behavior out of the system. Make it a event for the community, the price of admission can be a course in the dangers and consequences of street racing. now-a-days with tv shows like street outlaws and high HP cars I fear this isn't going away. Best to have your head of a swivel, the main reason I traded my motorcycle for a street beast.
