Taking money out of the equation , where in the USA would you live ?

HAHA ! I'll have to visit someday? I envision/perceive it to be like BC Canada? Lots of rain? I think I'd need to be in a "Red" state politically .... 

I've been once too.  And everyone was super nice.  Really liked it and could see why someone would want to live there.  You seriously thinking of moving?  Then I have to tell you about a secrete place known as Brush Prairie, WA.     Come up here and be my neighbor!   

That changes everything.  When you put money back on the table, it's hard to beat Texas.  Great weather, tax friendly, and lots of affordable housing.  Partner, I could totally see myself living in Texas.  Yes sir.   

I've been doing some looking/research? and keep coming back to Texas?  Lots of factors to consider like property taxes, , climate, geography, etc.... I'd like some place small enough that it doesn't have a Walmart but within 30 minutes to an hour of a bigger city not a metropolis though.
I used to think the Carolinia's were for me but a few things turn me off ( one is I have family there ...too close!LOL) and this stupid thing how they tax your car each year based on the value for your tag permit .
On facebook I subscribed to a page called " for the love of old houses" man I'll tell ya some of those deals seem unreal for what you get? Around here the housing is going crazy! I'm thinking I could almost sell and retire to somewhere else and have a nice chunk in my pocket! The house is paid off and my wife is a US citizen...... in five years or so kids will be gone.......

Even with unlimited money for a home I keep getting drawn to Texas. Some of those homes/mansions in say Southlake Texas sure seem unreal! I can't even fathom having that much money but it's fun to dream! I've only been to Texas once to buy a Chevy Suburban ( Arlington area) I liked it ok, but never got to look around much....

Xegnome is a native Texan and I lived there for 7 years. We lived between San Antonio and Austin and LOVED it. The people are wonderful, it rarely snows and cars don't rust! How much better can it get?  We are currently living in Georgia to be near the kids/grandkids. Now, don't get me wrong, Georgia is gorgeous country and the people are as sweet as the tea, but there is just no place to go dancing around here!

How much better can it get?  We are currently living in Georgia to be near the kids/grandkids. Now, don't get me wrong, Georgia is gorgeous country and the people are as sweet as the tea, but there is just no place to go dancing around here!

There was an old guy around here( Bracebridge area) that had a thing for 1940 Fords. He had 5-6 of them and a pretty big car collection and he drove a 1940 Ford his whole life it was said. Drove them in the winter too! I always thought that was admirable if you could swing it! Cody he was the one I mentioned that has/had an Iseta that was brand new , never been on the road. It's been at least 15 years since I last had contact with him. I'm sure he has passed by now. I wonder what happened to his collection?

This question is on my mind almost daily in recent times.  I've lost hope for my state, the politicians, the corruption, the rising taxes, after living here my whole life I know I got to get out of here sooner rather than later.
I really want a car friendly place with cruises and shows nearby.  I want enough property for keeping 6 to 8 cars indoors, and a room for parking an enclosed trailer.
I don't care for harsh winters, but high heat and humidity kicks my butt too.
Needs to be friendly to firearms owners too.
Indiana or Kentucky keep showing up on my radar screen.  I spent a couple months in Charlotte for work in 2010 and liked it there too.  I wish I knew people there though.
I've got a 3-5 year timeframe in mind to flee this sinking ship so I hope I nail down a destination soon! In the meantime, I'm all ears when it comes to car guys discussing their areas!

I totally get/understand your reasons , same issues with me too. Same criteria (firearms and cars) also! I like Kentucky , love the forests , open spaces. The thing I'd miss most around here is the hardwood bush area's like Algonquin Park , or really anywhere here and north of me. Lots of exposed granite and hardwood bush.

Wel since I'm gonna be rich enough to have 2 houses,  ( Hope)  in the summer, torch lake up by Traverse City Michigan for the summer, beautiful!  Spent the last weekend there  . . . Fresh water ocean is amazing!

Winter . .  Although there is plenty of fun in the summer pick, I do need coconut trees and the beach . .  . Golf Shores Aalabama is cute, or somewhere is South Carolina . . . Beach please!

It looks like @Cuda Cody plans to live in AZ or TX and yet, those weren't US spots I planned to live; so, it looks like we have some things to settle up on! 

Now that I'm thinking about it, I just need three things within an hour's drive 1. the ocean 2. plenty of green space/nature for outdoor activities 3. a wine region- is that too much to ask?  I do love the PNW- proximity to ocean, wine, mtns, we have seasons, etc. If taxes weren't what they are, I could see living in several California towns, like Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo. Still, it looks like I may need to be okay with 2 of my 3 requirements, move to TX and keep my marriage intact!

Uh oh! I hope I didn't start something in the Reich household!   LOL  Your requirements sound great though. I too love the ocean, just maybe as you say about an hour  from it as hurricanes are not much fun either. I hear you about green space, I couldn't live in a concrete jungle either. Fun to visit once in awhile though.

I'll take the Sarasota area in Florida. I am done with the cold and love the warmth. I'm a scuba diver, racer, and love to fish plus there are car events year round.

I live in Alabama and Gulf Shores is beautiful, you can go to some parts of the beach and only a few people there. Been to Myrtle Beach, nice but too many people. Only bad thing about Alabama is TORNADOES,  SO I am 4 hours from Gulf Shores, 45 minutes from Talladega Super Speedway, 30 minutes from Wall Mart, And I can keep my 9mm with me all the time. Plenty of car shows, dont do any dancing (that's something you don't want to see LOL)
