BIGSHCLUNK

Anyone else here had issues w windows 10 Pro (version 1083 as I recall)?  I wanted to run a better video editing program so I got a new laptop. You know the drill - more power more ram more memory.  More headaches.... everything started out fine, I've had the machine for about 4/5 months now. In the last 3/4 weeks freeze ups (where I just had to let the battery die to shut it down. Intermittent crashes and restarts. Tonite it locks in this screen... had to let the battery just run out again. Did a little research online, lots of issues and from what I've read microsoft knows it's a problem. The laptop is actually under warranty BUT I'm afraid if I send it in (Dell, I've had many over the years including the one I'm on now - windows 7 Pro - no issues) I will lose all the files already in it. So I'll take it in local... just venting I guess.. but a real PITA  :headbang:

I have no idea what version of windows is on my desktop. Drives me crazy that windows forces you to let them update my computer .  :pullinghair: Sometimes after an update things are screwy for a couple weeks till they work the bugs out of it so it seems? I'm not so computer savvy so I have no idea how to gain control over MY computer?   Stuck with a "socialist computer"  :headbang:

In previous versions some issues required booting in Safe Mode which loads minimal drivers & will usually work well enough to back up files, uninstall programs, run Windows or 3rd party diagnostics & do updates to the system.

You do know you can do a hard stop by pressing and holding the power button until it shuts off.  Don't have to just let the battery die.  When you do that, will usually ask whether to boot up in safe mode.  Sometimes all it takes is to boot up in safe mode, shut it down properly, and reboot normally.  Problem may go away at least for awhile.  Have you tried a google search for this specific problem?  Some computer genius out there may have a fix.

I just had a problem with the latest version of Roboform and Firefox.  Did a search and found some computer geek had posted a link to a short program to fix it.  Based on comments I trusted it and boom, fixed immediately.

I got Win 10 on my new laptop at work and I get the Blue Screen two to three times a week.  A couple other guys I know that got Win10 on their machines have the same issue.  Various fault codes.  IT doesn't have a clue and wants to re-image a brand new machine.  My Win7 lab computer has been a rock.  I'd go back to 7 but all the additional software I have to load takes a week and it is a painful process.

On just about any computer that is locked up or blue screened, holding the power button for ~5 seconds should shut it down.

:headbang: I've had similar problems with our dell laptop. From about a month after getting it. Got the update message and at some point it would automatically do the update and restart, then the wonderful "update failed to install properly " message. Went through that over a hundred times I'm sure. I tried looking tbe solution up on different forums but none of the solutions ever worked.  Not sure what version I'm on now but the updates have slowed down a lot.  :dunno:

I have an old machine still running XP, still works pretty well when I need it... But it never goes online, I use it for a couple specific jobs & thats it....

I will say I miss my XP...  but the unit was so old I could not get the parts to have it updated.  7 Pro rocks!! But I need the ram and memory to do certain other things. I finally get a handle on Davince Resolve ( ask Murray) and now this...  :pullinghair:

The last time my Windows10 did it's own update....it kicked out Google....It will no longer let me have Google as my search engine I need to use Microsoft Edge....which is not great.

Even today, I can go to Google enter a search and wait and wait and eventually it will work. If I set Google as the default, it won't work :pullinghair:

OK so I am going to jinks myself by saying this but I have been running Win 10 for a little over two years
with no problems.

I just dumped Firefox though and installed Opera as my browser. Firefox started acting up.
