Quote from: blown motor on March 04, 2025, 12:35:34 PMI took a header off the 440 in the Piower Wagon because it was leaking. Not hard to see in the picture where the leak was. You can see the gap between the header flange and straight edge in the second picture.

I found that on a set of headers of mine. Took the welder to the flange and built it up some and widened it out. Ground it flat, no more leaks.  I was so happy with the results that on another set of headers, I did enough welding to allow me to angle grind the flange around the ports. It was only a difference of about .060, but down by the collector, it moved it about half an inch. This allowed me to fine tune some extra clearance with the tight fit down by the clutch/t-bar area.

I also had to do that. Not a fun job, on and off is not fun.

Your tube is coming through the header flange. Mine is not. I'll just file the high points.

I got it back together this morning. I used a Remflex gasket as recommended by several people on the b body forum. I like them, they're quite thick, but the proof will be if they seal the leak. I did file the high points on the header face which were on each bottom corner of the centre ports.
One header leak down and one to go.  :D

Glad to hear you got 'er done Murray. I found that the bolts took some re-tightening once run up to heat. Maybe save blowing a gasket?  :bigthumb:

The Challenger developed an oil leak late in the summer so I crawled under it today with some shop towels and a can of brake cleaner and got it all as clean as I could. When I fire it up in a month I'll do a short run or two and see what I can deduce.

Is it linked anywhere on the site for long term reference? It should be in the drop down menu

I use remflex and have had great results with them. However, after a couple heat cycles go over those header bolts again and snug them up. I used ARP header bolts - highly recommend.

I had tried to get it somehow linked on this site, but I don't think it ever happened. It would be nice, because my son built and runs the site and he's financially upside down in it. That doesn't make him look good as a marketing major in his senior year! Last year I think he kicked in a couple hundred out of pocket just to keep it going another year and I think those site fees are coming up again soon. We had originally thought there'd be a lot more interest since so many had been asking @Cuda Cody if there was going to be anywhere to get merch after the last opportunity closed.
