My 72 Barracuda had a mid-80's 727 (PK4377823 8813 0839) installed when I bought it. I had it rebuilt (no shift kit) a few years ago, and was given a torque converter. I didn't know any better, and installed it with my rebuilt 340. I found through conversations about why I had such a horrible vibration, that it had a 360 weight on the front. I pulled it out and installed a low mileage, factory high stall converter. Unfortunately, it's leaking, so I'm back to using the torque converter I received with the rebuild. I bought a new flexplate for neutral balance and removed the counter weight from the Torque Converter. I was cleaning it up, when I found the HS LOCK UP round sticker on the back.
The questions are:
-Was this ever an option in a 727?
-Will the combination I have work?
I counted the input shaft on the transmission, and it has 24-splines. The engine rebuild was stock. The rear diff is a 3.23 SG. It's not, nor do I want a race car. I'm not interested in burnouts. I want something I can comfortably drive, and occasionally drive to work (highway speeds). That said, the idea of a lock up does appeal to me and I like the idea of using what I have.
I'm just looking for a little guidance/education as I want this to be the last time I pull the transmission for the foreseeable future.

Mr Cuda

I'm really suprised I didn't hear from you, as I think you got that converter from me. Its hard for a converter to leak from any where but the pump seal and the neck was good.
Any clue as to where the leak was?
As far as the high stall lockup. A rebuilder must have used a lockup shell to rebuild into a regular 24 spline converter.
Lockup has 23 spline and a different input shaft nose, so no swapping.
A lockup high stall I believe is 1800rpm stall. The bolt bosses welded on the converter shell are different between a 2400 H.S. and a 360 mid stall or high stall lockup.
