Hey everyone,
I followed Rob Del's method for retro-fitting a tilt column in my e-body. Pretty happy with it! Gives me the clearance I was wanting between the bottom of the steering wheel and the seat. I found a tilt floor-shift column from a '76 Cordoba, the swap takes a little fabrication but nothing too bad. Thanks Rob for the great idea and advice!

Thanks for the pictures, Bill. It looks good. I put tilt columns in all three of my e-bodies with smaller steering wheels. It looks like it has turned out nice.

Now that is the right way to do it! Looks perfect and is more robust than the aftermarket options too.

Do you have a parts list / details on what's needed?

Thx

I can start it, but Rob has mastered this process by doing it on several e-bodies so I hope he adds input. Find a '76-78 B-body tilt column. These are actually saginaw (GM) units but have Chrysler keys and a Mopar coupler for the steering box. THis column has a rag joint. They also came with a pig-tail connector to link the GM column wiring to the Mopar dash harness. So best if you can get that harness with the steering column. I'm actually using a Borgeson box, no problem. You can use the regular e-body mounting plate that goes to the firewall. The fabrication part is figuring out a new mount to the dash frame, since the B-body brackets don't line up. I also used a short extension between the column and steering wheel for better positioning. The hardest part for me was finding the column, but they're still out there.
The adapter works with 3 or 5 bolt after-market steering wheels. I used a Grant wheel on mine.

Rob Del is ShelbyDogg. There was a thread on cc.com that Rob did laying it all out. Unfortunately....cc.c is gone.
S @ShelbyDogg ....do you have a pdf or write up kicking around anymore?
And...how you doing? You had lots of 'how to's' on the old site and your input on these cars was very valuable. Fell free to hang around!

I've got a tilt/telescope column out of an 80s Imperial up in the attic. Been contemplating making this switch but figure I'll get the car back on the road first, then worry about making it more comfortable to use.
