I got suede paint black from  instrument specialties and have painted my cuda's dash twice and steering once. 1st time was definitely too dry. This time I sprayed it wet till it was almost running and it did run on the crush can. But it still seems like a little too textured? Should I add a little thinner? Or is this the finish I'm looking for,? Original pieces 50 years old seem to have almost no texture left to compare. Maybe @Cuda Cody  can chime in as i watched his excellent videos on this topic. Does this look right?

Hmmm, color looks ok but looks a little rough when you rub your hand across it? If I recall on my original car, the suede was smooth or maybe softer. I will try and head to the shop warehouse and check it out. Cody should be able to give you the exact paint, code.

:alan2cents: Can't really tell by your pictures but your paint does not look too rough. Difficult to get good pictures but here are a few from my car.

Can I assume the later years no longer have the "suede" look?

Correct.  My 73 didn't have any texture.  SEM Trim Black was a perfect match to the dash frame and steering column.

since my original blue dash was spray bombed black at some point...  did the colored dashes have the same texture?  or were they painted in the same single stage paint that the outsides of the cars got?

I agree that SEM Trim Black does look pretty darn good.  :bigthumb:... Rustoleum also makes a "Fine Textured" black paint that if laid down right looks good too.

On a 1970 yes the colored dashes got the same suede paint. Here's 1970 Dodge, Plymouth was the same.
