Spring rate is also an important thing to consider.
Spring rate has to do with how much weight the springs are designed to support.
If you put a small spring rate on a heavy car, it will just squish the springs down low.
If you put a large spring rate on a light weight car, it might bounce a lot.

Try to choose the right spring rate for your car, and keep it balanced percentage wise with what you're using for the front spring rate.

You should probably drive the car to a local weigh scale, weigh the car with just the front tires on the scale, and then weigh it with just the back tires on the scale.  That will give you a decent idea of your front and rear weights.
Then you can figure out what torsion bars / leaf springs you already have, and decide what is the best direction to go.

Because spring rate selection has to do with car weight, do all your weight saving stuff first.  If you're planning to swap on aluminum heads & intake, or relocate the battery to the trunk, or install a Duke's of Hazzard cow pusher on the front bumper, do that stuff before weighing the car.
