1972 'Cuda (FY1) - 5.7L Hemi, T56 Magnum

Yes adding a blower is an easy upgrade as would be bolting in a bigger version of the gen III... But honestly what you have now is a great driving package, more power is just gonna allow you to blow the tires off at will.....I'd enjoy it as is for a long time.... Put some miles on it.... Lotta country worth seeing in your area...  :alan2cents:

The Hellcats keep getting cheaper and cheaper. At least for now, I'd add pretty good value to the car over a blown 5.7, but the blown 5,7 would be plenty fast.

That's sort of the plan. Revision B for the car is a whipple. If I blow up the 5.7 before now and then, I'll go 6.4L.

The car drives very very well and is very much a jack of all trades, for what it is.

Well, that's the thing. There will be plenty of guys do the Hellcat swap and never work out the whole car. Your's is becoming a great package that everything works on and it would be a pleasure to daily drive it.

Here's how the new engine stacks up next to my old 318. Also there's a graph of where I am at in 1st-4th gear. The close ratio 6spd keeps it pulling quite well.

I determined my air intake setup is pretty severely undersized, the hint lied within some dyno data. I noticed my peak power seemed to struggle over a few hundred rpm, which should not be the case. I took a gander into a log and confirmed part of the issue. My MAP value decreases as the rpms hit the upper range, meaning the engine is trying to suck against a restriction.

The air filter I had before was just bought based on fitment and I needed a quick solution. As I looked into what it "should" be based on the volumetric efficiency, displacement and rpm, it's quite amazing the engine made as much power as it did given that filter.

What I now have is about 80% larger and it is what K&N sells for Hemi and LS cold air intakes. It should allow some future growth as well. I should have the bellmouth adapter here this week and i'll see how things feel. I expect a pretty noticeable improvement in peak power, perhaps shift the rpm up a tad as well.

Nice! It is fulfilling going through a new build and tweaking the bits for nice gains.

It is. The engine makes pretty good power, I am looking forward to see if this makes any mentionable difference, though I'll be a little disappointed if it doesn't. This should get me a few more ponies up there.

Still out there putting miles on the car. So far it's been doing very well, I'm sneaking up on a perfect tune in any situation, which takes some time.



You can also fit two car seats in the back!

Just subjective feel. I believe it pulls harder at the top end. I needed to add a little fuel up there as well.

Crossed the 3,000mi mark today.

My father in law and I did a car cruise in Nocona, TX today. Car ran flawless for the 250mile trip today...despite the rain.
