Hello,

I've been away from this site for a few years now, but I'm back again! A few years ago I got tired of my 71 Challenger build and sold it. Well I missed having a classic and decided to jump into a RT this time. Bought a 1970 Challenger RT U-code numbers matching car (Engine and Transmission) with fender tag and build sheet. This will be a pretty slow process and won't be perfect by any means, but I'm going to try and stick to the build sheet best I can. I'm awaiting the car to be delivered to me, should have this weekend.

The only thing I'd like to change so far is add a passenger mirror (safety and looks better imo), and change it from column to console shift. It currently has a shaker hood on it, but I plan on having the standard rt hood put back on it. One thing I'm a little surprised about is that it seems to be (from the build sheet) an open diff car. 8.75 rear 3.23 gears, open diff. I thought all RTs had sure grips! If it's not the case, I'd like to add that as well. The goal is to get it back on the road and get it fixed up over the years. It'll be a fun weekend cruiser.

@anlauto

Thanks, I love the EV2 and the saddle tan interior is growing on me. It's odd its a 440 magnum with drum and manual brakes. Dealer demo car so odd order, guess they didn't want to stop? lol. Odd too it was a column shift car instead of console, but who knows why it was ordered that way. Maybe it was somewhat popular at the time. The car is older than me, so I can't say what was popular then lol.

looks like a great project!
  console was an extra $53 & sure-grip was an extra $41, maybe the A/C at $357 & the 440HP/727 at $130/$227 ($357 also  :unbelievable:) put them over their budget!!  :twothumbsup:

Cool project!  8)
Great factory color combo!  :twothumbsup:

A lot of people didn't realize you had to pay extra for a console and figured they just came that way....

It was a dealer demo car (Sept 30th 1969 build date), usually dealers order just about all the options they can when a new model comes out, to show it off to potential buyers. Or at least that's how it seems it is now.

Either way I'm happy to have it, and hope I can get it back on the road sooner than later. That all depends on my budget and when I can actually get parts! I'll need the Rallye hood and AMD is currently out of stock until spring/summer so I'll be playing the waiting game for some parts!

From the paperwork I have the car was mostly a Texas car, but spent some time in Iowa and Nebraska too.

@6bblgt

That's cool, where did you go to do that and could you do that for the entire build sheet?

I've attached my decoded build sheet.

I like it too, that's really cool. It's neat to see how rare or common some options were. Or the exclusion of an option and how many people didn't choose a console shift and left the column. Not to mention all the prices and detail.

Is this how people get the "My car is 1 out of X" built with these options? My RT isn't a V code or a Hemi, but some options like the tan interior seem pretty rare. Although rare and desirable are two different things.

Great car looking forward to seeing your progress.  If you're going to ditch the shaker hood,   Tony 73 just posted he is looking to buy one/parts?  Might be able to help each other out.

that's my creation & it covers the complete sheet/car

anything that doesn't have a line item is part of JS23 (A62, N85, C16, etc.) or included with an ordered OPTION i.e. E86 (S15, S25, etc.)

the STANDARD NO console "choice" % would be the total for 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual & automatic transmission equipped 1970 JS23s

with 20 color choices & ~50 extra cost OPTIONs, most cars are going to be 1 of 1 - finding 2 identical cars is nearly impossible with the exception of package cars like Superbird, A12, 300Hurst, T/A or AAR and/or a fleet vehicle that were ordered/spec'd out in batches
(or a pair of twins that got matching ordered cars for their 16th birthday)  :crazytalk:

Thanks, I like this kind of info on the car. I had it printed and framed  :bigthumb:
