I checked inside and luckily the only piece the screwdriver went into was directly behind the large holes. Even then it was only 3 small holes I could make.

Good thing, same on my -70 convertible, only 1 bad spot. Someone before me fixed the outside with a patch but left the inside holes.

Next week is the big 4 day swap meet in Portland.  I'll keep my eyes open for you.  Do you have someone in NY that it can be shipped to if I find one?  I'm guess it's not going to be cheap for me to ship it 3000 miles just to NY, but I'll help out if I can.

Do you have a budget you want to spend for one so I know what to look for?  I'm sure I can make some calls and find one too.  There's a lot of them out there.

Wow 3000 miles! Thanks for the offer Cody, don't feel pressured into do it though especially if the shipping for the 3000 miles is crazy money. Yes I have the NY address for shipping now. As for a price, do you have a ballpark figure I could go by? Do they ever come complete with control arms etc..? I think shipping will be around £100 for a bare unit from NY + duty this end.

Beyond belief what people deem to be a good job. I just couldn't live with myself if I thought and acted like that, I'd feel worthless. A clear conscience is worth the extra graft imho.

Just seen this Cody, what do you think at $295 plus shipping to my door @ $394 incl

torredcuda

They are worth $75 -$150 and plenty of them around so I wouldn`t pay anymore than that. I understand the shipping issue but I would also be glad to help if you can set something up, the one local to me for $75 is a deal we would just have to figure out how to ship it from here in New Hampshire.

Thanks torredcuda, Yeah I agree the guys shipping is a good price but he's asking a bit over the top for the K frame. My guy that ships out of NY said it's up to me to get the stuff to the docks so I'm pretty stuck really.

Probably about as good as it will get for shipping across the pond. I offered up a dash frame to a Mopar guy in Cypress, he just had to cover the shipping. Hold on and don't pass out, the shipping was going to be anywhere from 700-800, needles to say, the guy had to step back, and I don't blame him a bit.

Shipping from the east coast would be best, if all else fails. I probably have a k frame I could just donate, but the shipping from the west coast is a killer.  :bricks:

Shipping is going to harder then actually finding one.  They are all over if you just look a bit.  Not a hard item to find, but shipping it to you will be more expensive then the frame itself.  The key would be to find one as close as possible.   :alan2cents:

As with most any parts here. shipping to the UK, Aus, NZ, Swtzlnd is not cheap by no means. with us being restricted to a small package for postal, UPS and FedEx rates are ridiculous. but what are you going to do when you need that item.

Hard to say about the cowl/firewall. Have you checked the inside of the firewall? This is what happened to my 73 after sandblasting, this looked like surface rust before, but obviously it was very thin. I see you have some holes where the dirt and moist sits, inside can be the same.

Forget my previous comment, you were right! I had a good poke around the cowl area trying to clear the crap from behind the panel. The drain was solid with mud from the wasp nest. This is what I found  :tired: I cut away the front of the cowl to expose what I could feel with the screwdriver.

So what's the drill guys, new firewall and cowl? Anything you see that's repairable rather than replacing?

Funny how it's all the LH side, the RH side is sound all down the car but the left is shot.

Shipping is def a pain, it's all dead money. My list of parts is growing a little too well for my liking  :tired:

Yes: It's ugly but there's no turning back. I myself would probably fix that cowl (considering where you are and the cost of new parts/shipping)  but it would take some metalworking skills to do it right and lots of time.

:iagree:  The one factor that most people don't have to consider is all the shipping and tax costs that are on top of the normal expense.  When I look at the time needed to replace or repair something I don't have the added costs that you do.  It's not going to be easy, but maybe the best option is to try and fix it fist.  Plus you're dealing with the body stamping numbers too.  So it allows you to keep the original stampings and possible saves you money on not having to ship big parts across the sea.   :alan2cents:

Thanks guys, I will give it a go. just cut all the old thin metal out and fab up some new. Need to practice on the welding to get some nice joins in there.

My plan is to get the front end sorted then the floor then start on the back end. Or do you think I should just strip the lot and hit it all in one go? Not sure I can get my head around seeing any more rust and bodges though.  :verymad:
