Finally decided to get a project thread going on my 70 Challenger convertible,  I did a bunch of things this spring and finally got her back on the road a month ago.

First improvement was the addition of a Rimblow steering wheel.  After getting it , it became obvious that the steering column needed some attention, so I followed @Cuda Cody 's excellent video and now the column is worth of the rimblow, sorry first picture doesn't feature the column work.

What I really love is the non-stock but totally awesome woodgrain dash overlay, a whopping $39 from Detroit Muscle Technologies.  Installed with some black caulk so easy to remove, but why would I?

3rd improvement was the dash tach in the clock location, thru Classic Industries, I've had a tiny tach sitting in my ashtray for 10 years, this is so much better. I should have gotten all needles to match color, and will probably do that soon.

Anyway, here is the new view I have while cruising, I honestly never liked the standard steering wheel, always looks cheap, and the all black standard dash is so dull.

I love everything about the new look.

I'll post a few more pictures of improvements and previous work soon.

Looks nice! So does the wood grain overlay attach to some sort of thin metal plate that goes over the bezel or does it adhere directly to the grained bezel?

worthywads

Directly to the plastic, it's a perfect fit too, impossible to do wrong, it butts up to the edges on the top and sides.  But there is no metal on the bezel.

That looks freaking awesome!!!  Nice job.   :bravo:  :veryexcited:

You did a great job. Looks really good. And the Tach location is a great idea also.  :driving:

Great Look!
The additions give your Challenger a "classy" looking driver's view with the wood grain dash, mini-tac and rim blow wheel.
I like the fact that your wood grain overlay came with the opening for the power convertible top switch.
Nicely Done

Seems unanimous...everyone prefers the woodgrain on the standard dash. A solid upgrade.

If I ever decide to upgrade my convertible from its stock appearance, both the dash and steering wheel would be solid choices. If I only heard about it, I might be on the fence but seeing how nice it looks in the picture makes me a believer.

That rim blow looks amazing.  Mine came with one from the factory and still is in fair shape.  Getting ready to send it in for rebuild.  While it's gone, I plan to also follow the steering column rebuild video's from @Cuda Cody.  I'm a bit leery of tearing down this column (still in ok shape) and not being able to get it back together.  I've watched the videos clear through and he makes it look easy. How intuitive was it for you?

It was actually pretty easy following along with the video on disassembly and assembly.

I'm embarrassed to say I had to do it twice.  First time was with etching primer and sure enough I immediately had a few chips after assembling it but before install.   Took it apart again, stripped again and re-did it with 2 part epoxy primer as @Cuda Cody instructed.  Don't skip that, I have an old $45 spray gun I bought some 25 years ago that I should use more often and will from now on.

I've done a couple and they aren't that bad. Cody's video definitely makes it smoother and faster if you hit a snag.
