Right after Chrysler bought them, Jeep/Eagle was trying to make a global presence of their equipment in various small series motorsports. That included the Commanche trucks in the SCCA truk series and the Eagle Talons that were in the World Challenge Series with the Archer Bros, who also raced the SCCA Trans Am Daytonas.

The Cherokee immediately above is from the Grassroots Motorsports Magazine $2013 Challenge. The whole point of that competition is to build a race car for whatever value is the year.  They are then judged on appearance, drag strip times, and autocross ability. There are some scary fast and capable vehicles in that series.

AAR Transam #50231 bought by Chrysler France after the last two races of 1970. Picture is in France in August 2000. Now returned to USA.
