I just stumbled upon this and wondered if this was ever posted here on the forum.
This was found on Flickr and the poster said it was converted at the Chrysler's Adalaide Australia plant.
I can't say I like the rims but the VIN tag looks odd, but I see it has front & rear rubber bumpers.
Just a rare 'Cuda to pick apart.  Enjoy!

very coool. wonder if they have tag #2. my dad still has a set of those slotted mags that he had on the Barracuda somewhere on the farm, tried finding them a couple years ago when I was up there last.

WOW!  :wowzers:  it sure is a pretty RARE & well optioned 440'cuda convertible 1 of 28 US spec. car (before conversion) - tag appears legit!

Wow, that looks so weird, console looks stock and the instrumentpanel is not a mirror image.
Wonder how many was converted like that. Did the UK do it also?

I've got a picture somewhere of one of these Aussie cars that shows that the console is opposite the standard console.
But this one looks as if the console door is like an American console.

I have not seen a UK car with this conversion.  Only seen Australian cars.   This makes 3.

I wonder how they did the dash pad?

I was wondering that too. Were they able to commission Ultimate Rides to do a mirror image  :dunno:  I can't begin to image all the work that's involved with this.

RUNCHARGER

What a neat car. The dashpad would have been a challenge alright.

First time I saw an Aussie covered E body was in the early 80's... I met the guy that was importing them to Australia, he had a guy that would section the dash pad & put it all back together, then he would glue in sections of high density foam, sculpt it & finally vacuum form vinyl over the pad....   Same guy was sectioning consoles..  This was at a time when Just Dashes wasn't around yet, never mind the 5-6 other companies that have come & gone doing dashes....

He had another shop doing the mechanical conversions....

They may have been done by Chrysler in Australia , I believe only Australia required the right hand drive conversion to be done

Very doubtful.... Look at the work on the firewall, hardly OE level work... Chrysler AU has cars built in Australia for the Australian market.... If you wanted something not intended for the Australian market there is always someone willing to do the work to make it happen for a price....

FWIW When I was speaking with the guy who was importing E bodies he indicated that after the cars were a certain age (maybe 25 years?) they would be able to be imported without converting to RH drive....   The conversions were done at the port of entry, the vehicle had to pass a vehicle inspection prior to being released from the port.....

Anyone remember the RHD Charger Daytona that was returned to the United States from Australia after being there since the early 70s?
