Best Valve Cover Gaskets

I like the idea using the bushing. There s no way you can crush the gasket material, like you have never done that before. Is it the best gasket? Maybe not, (debatable) but it does have at least one advantage for sure!

Thanks, I did not realize they had the bushings in the bolt holes to prevent over tightening.  I have two oil leaking turbo buicks that they are going on next, then! :cheers:

I installed the blue Moroso on the 505ci in my Charger and tighten them down to what I felt was tight.  Low and behold they still leaked.  So I call Moroso and they said torque them to 100" or 8 1/3 lbs.  When I checked, it was not even at 50".  So I torqued it down to 100" and they are perfect with no leaks!

Torqued down correctly the Blue Moroso's are nice!

I had a problem where the valve cover bolts needed washers to get an even seal and whammo not a single leak so far!

I certainly hope the gaskets didn't leak, they're brand new!

Reusable too!

So I installed the blue Moroso's and torqued them to 100" per their suggestion, drove around some and just pulled the Charger out and they are all loose. Any suggestions?

Check your bolt length. Remember I had this problem.

What's the best method to determine if the valve cover is flat / true and fix?

Food for thought, I had to get different washers on mine because the ones that came with the bolts were too small and we're getting warped.

Another thing is when the heads heat up and cool down they can come loose. Is this on iron heads or aluminum?

lotta folks reuse old valve cover bolts, not realizing the threads
are badly worn, and thus they get more leaking. I also use lock washers
under the valve cover bolts.

For the good old SL6, I've actually preferred the Felpro cork, rubber infused gasket I make sure all the surfaces are clean. To keep the gasket in place on the valve cover, since it's considerably bigger than the V8 valve cover, I take single pieces of thread and pass it through the VC bolt holes, cinch these up snug. This way I'm assured that the gasket won't slip out of place. Then some blue RTV, clean the threads on the bolts, and I torque them to 40 in.lbs. With this process I've really not experienced those pesky oil leaks down the side of head and block, lasts until the next time I have to remove the VC. There are times when you remove the VC frequently to adjust the valves, makes a world of difference. Then I will replace the gaskets around all 6 of the spark plug tubes, they tend to harden up from heat and will always leak.      Thanks,   Al
