Got the cuda out for the first time in two weeks to go golfing with my son...15 min drive.

Jump on the highway and have it in 2nd, figure I will run it up to speed see how she goes.  Well it did not, it stalled out a 4500, hmmm weird.

than bam temp gauge hits 210 and climbing, seems a little smokey out the back...FUCK, what's going on.

well no good place to get off, so I limp it to the golf course. she is smoking out the engine bay and hot.  I decide to play my round then deal with it.

Check it out after my round, and no water in the rad, fill it up and it leaking from somewhere.  It starts and runs fine so for some unknow reason I decide to drive it home.  NOT my finest moment.

Well made it home, man it go hot.  Still not sure why I did that.

Anyway, seems I blew a freeze plug out when I got on it.  Honestly it was one of the aftermarket rubber one, so I am guessing the rubber failed.

At least its an easy fix, and hopefully I did not destroy the whole engine by running it too hot again!

off to find a freeze plug.

But more importantly, what did you shoot?
I went golfing today too, gotta say I'm loving the Gen 3 more and more.

Oh man!!  What oil are you running?  If you are running quality oil, it might have saved your butt.  Losing that much coolant puts a lot of pressure on the oil to keep things from becoming one.

I hope the engine is ok for sure. But if it isn't there's a 360 sitting on a stand in your town and you know who's it is. Now prying it away from the old geser might take more than a little scotch.  :haha:

Running Lucas HotRod oil, so I guess we will find out it is good.

The car did turn over this morning, so I am hopeful.

Got a new plug today, hope to get it installed this weekend and see what happens.

One thing I've learned over the years is that Mopar small blocks are TOUGH! Hopefully yours is OK.

My buddy had a 318 in his 71 Charger that was driven with no coolant due to a fairly large hole in the rad for roughly 5 miles. It was knocking and sputtering so bad by the time we got it home that I thought it was cooked for sure.
Next day we put in a new rad and filled it with coolant. Motor fired right up and ran like nothing ever happened. Ended up selling the car about 3 years later and that motor was still running strong.

well, good news, got the freeze plug in with no real trouble.  Not easy with the engine in the car, but it went in.  looks to be holding water, so that a win!

Engine still turned over and fired up today, no obvious loud ticks or bangs etc.  So I might be good.

BAD news... the carb seems to be screwed. I get about 1/8th of an inch movement in the linkage.  Pulled all the cable and linkage to make sure that was not the problem...no change.

I am guessing I warped something.

I will pull it off another day and see what I can see.

All in all if you only have to replace the carb you got lucky!

Does this mean the rubber freeze plugs can't be trusted ?

chargerdon

ive had steel core plugs blow out also..   So not necessarily a blow to rubber.
