I'm not really into scary movies....but EVERYBODY with a cell phone or a social media account needs to watch this movie.... :worship:

Even though I'm on here 23.5/7, I'm glad I don't own a cell phone or participate in that social stuff on line... :o

Watched it last night.  Explains how I'm losing friends and family to conspiracy theory obsession, science denial, Qanon, Pizzagate, and infowar.

Personally I think the world was more stable before social media. The major players have far too much control over how the general public forms opions . I wish I did not have to own a cell phone they are really obnoxious. But I am a small business owner and work with homeowners who usually call me on a immediate or emergency  basis. It is indispensable in that regard.

Watched it yesterday, very good documentary.
It is true, not so much with our generation, but the kids are getting sucked in to it, and the scary stuff is that they make it
very addicting with notices and like buttons etc.

I'm on Facebook, and I know what a huge time waist it can be, just gonna check if I got a message, then I see something I wanna read, then another thing and I keep scrolling, suddenly I've been checking out stuff I don't need to see for 30 minutes!
And I don't wanna leave either, I find many good car parts in Facebook groups.
I don't have social media on my cell though, just on my computer. If you have Facebook on your cellphone they track your movements.

My 15 year old daughter is sucked in deep...reminded me a lot of the young girl character in the show :'(
She was just showing me how many "likes" she got on a recent Tik Tok post :looney:

So is my 18YO daughter, I was shocked when I got to see her screen time, 6-7 Hrs per day some times.
Not good at all, her self esteem is getting a huge hit, along with her eye sight and she is sure gonna have neck problems later.
She can't sit thru a movie with us without picking up the phone every 3-4 minutes.
I don't know what to do about it... just talking about it makes me the bad guy.

I'm right there with you...and a few million other parents too....Now they're doing "on-line learning" due to covid...which just makes scene time all that much worse..

The part that bugs me the most is the 'handling' of the news. I just want the bare facts, unbiased news. There are so many news 'commentators' and 'bloggers' spewing all sorts of garbage out there. Take any sound scientific position/program and you can find someone has set up a blog or show with a conspiracy theory angle against it. Just set up to make money of course. But people end up believing it.

Nowadays it takes a lot of work to see/retrieve 'unwashed' news.

There was a meme on the facebook I did like that read something like "when we were young, the news told us what happened and it was up to us to figure what we think about it.  Today, they tell you how to think and feel about something, and we have to figure out if it really happened!"

It would be interesting, when in a group of friends, to all Google the same current topic to see if different answers or links come up.  :clueless:

Major news outlets also have fact checking aspects of their stories that means things that are front and center on the web as breaking news are still in the checking sequence at networks, which leads to the next issues with social network news... fact checking disqualifies some stories as false which then leads the interweb gurus claiming the major news networks are biased and only reporting to a specific agenda.

The ability of electronic mediums to spread untrue information as fact is frightening. The fact that so many people then take these stories as fact is even more scary.

This, in my opinion, is the worst of all. When you're older you realize you 'can't please them all'. But when you are young, it's a different ball game and they can get really hurt. Can be life altering.

My two kids and even my wife have changed in the past five years...they burry their heads in that dam cell for hours, they've become a lot more "distant" for lack of a better word...
