Road Runner from the Nats...from years ago. Supposed to be a real Hemi car. Was asking 10k.
My Buddy Mike brought this one back from the dead, real R/T 4 speed car with 60000 something miles on it. Got hit hard in the rear and was left in a field for years.....
It's all back together now using original parts and AMD awaiting paint.
Barn burned down right after the car was finished. They brought it to the Nats anyway and got a lot of attention. It still ran. Has it been restored?

Yes most of us know the story... And until I saw the video I accepted it as a plausible explanation.... But I'm sorry, once you drop off the track & onto pit row there is absolutely no reason for staying hard on the gas.....

I always liked the color keyed grille and the TB3 color with the black vinyl top. The grille is (was) smooth and not textured.

That's not a very big tree. These cars are extremely weak compared to modern cars. I hope the driver survived...I'm not holding my breath.
Wrecked Cuda. If I recall correctly he had just finished the restoration and got ran off the road.

There's not a car made that could withstand a hit from a tree like that... But for that car to tear in half I expect it had hidden rust issues.... They weren't hidden after the crash...
Similar sized tree... Cars don't stand a chance against a tree...
That red car was restored and not properly by the look of it. If that was factory welded together it wouldn't have separated the front clip the way it did, I've seen some busted up Mopars back in the day and they didn't separate that way.

My story is simple...18 year old with booze and horsepower mixed.
After leaving a party at midnight, a friend and owner of a new 71 Demon 340 following,
we decided to see which 340 car was the faster.
What was supposed to be a 1/4 mile run on a deserted stretch of Hwy 15, led to top end....real stupid, and a after couple miles of neck and neck we slowed for a slight bend with a dip in the road and I lost control at about 90 mph.
Barrel rolled it down an embankment after taking out 22 guideposts.
No seat belt on in 1971, so I bounced around inside like a rubber ball till the Challenger landed on its roof.
I thought the pounding noises would never end and then just like the scene out of the Wizard of OZ when the house landed...
...complete silence.
I was laying on the inside of the roof...all that hurt besides my feelings was my thighs from the constant thrashing against the steering column and I got a 3 stitch deep cut on my forehead.
Dont know the story on this 1970 Challenger RT, but chances are the occupants were not as lucky.

Yes Robert was hurt pretty bad, laid up for almost two months. He loved Motorsports. He had a pipe buggy and also modified 4 wheeler. We called him one of the Dew boys from the Moutain Dew commercials. About five years later he crashed his street bike and died instantly. Good guy, was an excellent machinist and used to always make oddball parts like bushing when I used to restore antique tractors. Still miss him but you can't drink and drive man!

Many years ago, just out of the military I drove tow truck for a couple years.... Trees win every time... Half the time all the tree loses is a very little bit of bark.....

:iagree: Friend had a '70 Charger RT, 440 auto. Going down a straight back road he decided to stick his foot in it and to his surprise the throttle stuck in the WOT position!! A couple of stabs at the pedal did nothing to release it so he reached for the key. In his panic, he turned the key too far and the steering wheel locked in a slight left turn. He skidded off of the road and hit the one and only tree along that part of the road. As fate would have it, he hit that lone tree dead center on the grill and it cleaved the front of that Charger in half. It wasn't an overly large tree, maybe 10" in diameter, but it was a locust tree and that species of tree is hard as nails. The Charger was totaled. We parted it out and off to the junk yard it went. The tree?? Like Randy said, all it did was lose some bark ...
Unless it's A sapling, tree's don't move!!! I have been in the towing and recovery business 30 + years.

Local Quebec car, bought around 78, redone around 89-90, and ran into a ditch when he was cut off one morning on his way to work... took about 10 years but it was brought back and is now a very nice driver. He's about 300 miles away from Montreal and comes around a couple of times each Summer for shows.

Yes it was a Hemi. A DUI and a fatality too. IIRC coming out of an intersection the driver had his foot all the way in it and swerved to avoid a truck with a horse trailer. Pretty sure it's Dana White's Cuda (UFC president). Car was built by one of those weekend power block type shows back in the mid 2000s, if I remember correctly they attached the shaker to the hood for the look but without the under-hood complications

You are correct Neil ... it was buried in an Indiana cornfield ... they used a bucket loader to shove it in the hole and flatten it down before burying it ... why?? ... I never could find out that part of the story. The fact that it was (is) a '71 Cuda is bad enough ... the absolutely sickening thing is that it was (is) one of the 107 "Holy Grail" cars ... yep, it's an original HemiCuda ... it's BS23R0B175222. :crying:

To prevent having the car sandblasted he hurried home and parked it in the garage safe and sound. This '70 Coronet used to sit in a yard with my '70 Coronet. Was told it was wrecked in the '80s. A couple ended up losing control, crashing through a concrete barrier and landed in a lake. The lady driving drowned in it. I refused to take any parts from it for mine; bad juju LOL. It was eventually crushed in 2007.
I forget the story behind this but I do know it wasn't a Dukes stunt car. Happened with an owner on the street.

The city picked it up and the fire department claimed it to use a "training device". They set that Bee ablaze and practiced putting it out over and over and over again until it was a warped twisted hulk of what once was a nice looking car. Sad but true story. :'(

I went by this shop today of this guy I met a couple of times before.
He has or had a Plum Hellcat, 2017 Dodge Ram, a 340 4 speed Duster that's original and a 2008 6.1L R/T Challenger.
Apparently he just snapped and destroyed both his Challenger that had only 1,500 miles on it.
Only 1,000 were made with this set up then.
The Ram still had paper plates on it.
Then he destroyed his truck as well. He did it in front of onlookers so it's not an Insurance job from what I was told.
The guy I spoke with who works nearby to him said he has cobwebs. :looney:
I could elaborate more but probably should just leave this alone.

Went and visited a client of ours today and I see he got a new car.
He tells me the previous car was in an accident on 12/31.
I asked him what happened?
He tells me he was slowely passing a Hellcat on wet roads in Washington state.
The Hellcat driver starts to get on it; looses control, hit his car that went off the road.
Hellcat driver then takes out a pole, fence, and utility box.
Rumor is the Hellcat's Insurance won't cover any of his damages and being forced him to pay out to $100,000 in damages on his own.
Ain't that something ... all that fine print in those insurance policies scare me sometimes because of stuff like this. :o
And for Hellcats ... my friend has one, two of them actually, and those things break traction seemingly at will :burnout:
I always thought that the tires on them were too skinny for having that much power available ... they definitely need some wider stickier tires under them! But that wouldn't have helped in this situation ... getting on a Hellcat on a wet road ... you can't fix stupid. :headbang:

I think its 2 different situations. Rims are different, landscape looks different as well. In one picture the front wheels are turned in the other they are straight. Thats my educated guess anyway.

Yeah, an asleep at the wheel brother :pullinghair: and a Maple tree :o took mine out. Brother and the tree survived with some scrapes and bruises. The car wasn't as lucky as the right front side was totally mangled. When they separated it from the tree it became apparent just how mortally wounded it was. It was declared non-repairable and was hauled off to muscle-car heaven. :andyangel: If it had happened more recently, a master metal magician like our man Cody could probably have worked his magic and saved it ... and your's too.

Man Dies After Crashing '70 Plymouth 'Cuda Into Telephone Pole
Delaware Online reports that a 65-year old man was driving his classic '70 Plymouth Barracuda at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit a telephone poll. The accident left the driver dead and his classic Barracuda split into three pieces.
This story is made all the more tragic by the presence of family members, who had just brought the driver a fresh tank of gas after he ran out on the side of the road. Witnesses report seeing the driver fill up his car and then take off at a high rate of speed, crashing not far down the road where he ran out of gas.
The damage from the accident can be seen in the telephone pole, which was split at its base by the force of the collision. The driver, whose name has not been released was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. His car was split into three pieces, with the whole engine – a Gen II 426 HEMI – ending up over 100 feet from the point of impact. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and we hope this serves as a reminder to our readership to slow down, lest you end up like this unlucky soul.

Let's take this into prospective! how fast was he going!!! did the welds fail or did the sheet metal rip. how much rust was in the cowl and framing of the car. it looks like it hit right at the hinge pillar on the left side of the car. look how far the car traveled after the fact, he was moving right along. :alan2cents:
He split a telephone in two. Think about that for a second. Over a foot thick, log pole, soaked in creosote. Sheared it clean off. I can't think of any vehicle that would fair well in that situation.
You also have the shear weight of the motor and transmission that isn't the same as modern cars.

Yes speed , inertia, mass all are factors here. But as an auto recycler / parts dealer since the ealy 80's I've seen a ton of HARD hits, wierd off angle hits, and crazy stuff where you scratch your head and go how is that possible. That being said... I hate to say it... but our cars a very structurally weak..

In a way it reminds me of the 24 hours of Lemans disaster in the '50's. A Mercedes racer hit the barrier in front of the grandstands head-on and the hood and motor tore through the crowd killing a bunch of people.

I just watched an awesome documentary on my flight from CT to San Fran called "Ferrari: Race to Immortality". This accident was one of the events that was covered because it involved a Ferrari driver as well. I recommend watching it.

Yes, but again what was the speed at point of impact! my guess would be 75 plus. but I won't argue with you about your point. that is why a lot of folk's use body stiffening devises.
It may not be that fast. I'm guessing main impact point is in line with the lt rail. But I do agree any chassis help is good . NIKKI included!
The question for me would be just how much, where and how to safely upgrade the chassis for impacts or even if should do it at all?
That is how I feel as well.
IMHOP frame connectors and other cabin strengthening adds would be the way to go at most. New cars the outer areas are purposely weak to absorb impact. Hidden bars under headliner strengthing the upper areas.A and B pillar reinforcements. Kill the car but save the passengers.
Another IMHOP full frames are not suitable for passenger safety. No impact absorption. Without air bags we need all the impact absorption the car can provide.

Over the weekend, at the Annual Budweiser Car Show in Fairfield, Ca, a show car participant was showing off as he left the show, and the car got a little squirrel-ly, rolled over, and caught fire. What a waste of a nice 69 BBO AMX 390, TKO 5-spd, rack & pinion, etc. First responders said the driver was alright. Here's a before and after shot.

Could very well have been. It's on the right side, today's auto stores don't seem to give you the right hose. With today's fuel they are deteriorating pretty fast. I've made mine almost all steel with PTFE at vibration and/or flex areas. Beautiful car just awful to see that.

Hit has appearance of coming in from the rear forward. same effect if this one was sliding in reverse from a spin out. But also is on correct side of road.

'72 RR (Not a GTX) 440, 4 spd. bought for parts from original owner circa 1984.
Oh, and that is a '71 Challenger R/T hull in the background (originally FJ6, 340, 4 spd.) that the RR driveline was going into but a 50 mi. move killed that. Sold the hull to a local guy and often wondered if he ever got it back on the road. RR was parted out.

At first glance I thought the hole was the headlight bucket. Closer look it is not. Possibly a suspension part exited thru there on impact.
'67 Coronet RT from the CA fires. Apparently the owner had no insurance or registered the car for 5+ years so he will get no money for the loss.

Owner went for a cruise today in his survivor 69 Charger, doing 55 mph and a 17 year old kid decided to gun it across all 4 lanes of traffic and T boned him (he was doing about 25-30 mph). Charger is totaled but the owner walked away.

Update from the owner, the Charger apparently can be saved and he has Hagerty insurance in case the kids insurance doesn't come through. There were also a lot of witnesses, including an off-duty cop, so needless to say the kid was found at fault.
Everyone was ok, so it's very good news that the Charger can be saved...

If you don't use reputable transportation, this is what you get. "Fell" off the transport truck and hit a concrete embankment.
Thanks. It Happened in late August. Tough lesson to learn. Wasn't able to go pick the car up myself after I bought it in Texas. Arranged for transport, they picked it up and it fell off the truck just after 300 miles. Didn't hook it up right and it came off the truck. The whole front end is trashed as well as the frame. Now I am back to looking for a new dream car.

I'm to happy to see all cars back on the road and being enjoyed, but not if its being represented as a quote real car...I'll be the first to complain, that the rich has destroyed the hobby.. but I still won't represent a car if its not what it is, I have a friend who swap #'s from a Bee to a 318 Coronet, who to this day, still swears by it.... :dunno:
:wrenching: I remember going to a salvage yard that I had called earlier asking about 69 Charger parts that I was restoring in the early 90's and the owner of the yard told me that he had a Charger coming in that day, so I show up early to get first shot at parts and when I show up the car that came in was a 70 Charger 500 B5 blue and complete; today I kick myself for not buying that car and pulling it from that yard it was complete... :pullinghair:
I used to frequently visit several of my local salvage yards back in late 70's and early 80's
There were plenty of sad Mopars that could have been taken home and put back on the road after some work.
I used to collect the build sheets from some of them; I look at the sheets today and also wish I had the sense to pick up some of those cars.

I have seen what you are talking about. Usually a pretty complete car in decent shape that sits in a junk yard with the 4 tires missing and is laying on the ground. I have recollections of many different cars sitting like that.
Are you referring to the salvage yard in Pine Brook (Montville) on the 46 west that was there in the late 70's/early 80's?
It sat where the Rt 46 narrowed into one lane and curved around to the west. A Home Depot sits across the highway now.
It was a huge yard and is used today at what looks like some kind of car storage facility. It was always visible from the highway. :thinking:

In all my years of yarding I've only seen one challenger, a few chargers, a few a body barracuda's and some of the larger cars.
Not many available in colorado in the past 15 years.

Wish I had thought to remove build sheets and tags from back in those days of all kinds of cars in the wrecking yards.

That was a great junk yard, you were allowed to browse and no one bothered you.
I remember climbing into a 70 Challenger that was stacked on top of two other cars.
I climbed up and jumped in and found a love hornets nest; Man I jumped down quick and ran and was lucky to have only been stung 2 x. Believe it or not a good memory! :o
Kantor Brothers are still in Boonton, but I think they may have moved to a different facility
They sell a lot of old repair parts for old and very old cars and are now doing some resto work.

I'm only 51 but can remember with my first Challenger in 1987ish ? going to the local wreckers in Toronto and fishing out a driveshaft on a stack of Challengers piled 3 high. I too miss those days.... makes me feel old.
Yeah, same memories of junk yards growing up. Most of the ones I visited "hid" their good muscle cars or parted them but saved them in some old barn or container. You had to get to know the yard owner to find out what he had for the real deal muscle. I know of a couple that had 426 Hemi and six-pack motors pulled but hidden out of site. Same with GM products. One of the yards had a true Yenko Camaro but you had to know the yard owner to see it. Good times. Now when I visit my home state (Wisconsin) those yards are all crushed. Too bad.
That really SUX! But it proves my comments in a different thread about structural integrity . I'm really curious to see what Haggerty will do with this. IMO it's now a parts car.

It might not be a parts car. Dynacorn makes a wonderful trunk floor assy with jig welded framerails that could be welded in as long as the front half can be pulled straight and they all need sheetmetal anyway.
Not Mopar but back in the 80s at a self pull yard there were 2 full and complete skyliners. Complete with their retractable roofs intact...
Tried to purchase them but yard was not licensed to be able to sell.
A yard in Hayward CA had a 69 4 speed RR convertible less motor. Blue on blue PW and Power top car. The transmission was in the car but they drug the tail shaft on the ground all the way to the yard.
It could be yours for $500
When I went back to get it was gone. Their forklift had broken down and they traded the RR for getting it repaired.

You may be surprise at the rides I see weekly (at the auction) that have less damage that insurance companies put the ax too. Of course around where I am that also makes for a bill of sale/junked title

IMO, it will require a ton of work to straighten everything out. Door has pushed into the front fender so it cannot be opened. I know cuda6pk says the roof is not popped up because the window is rolled down, but the window spec etching at the bottom of the window can be seen, so It looks to me like the cabin is now a different shape than stock. Other pix show torn open seams and buckles. Anything can be fixed, but not worthwhile to fix that one. :bricks:
Like Allan says...it's why we have insurance. Buy another car.

I'm gonna have to go with something hit that Duster while it was unoccupied. Maybe a big truck or something. Otherewise, I would think they would have no option but to cut the car apart to remove the driver. My buddy's car look just as bad back in the 80s when he was awakened to the sound of a garbage truck with no brakes rolling backwards down his street and demolishing his new Monte SS.

If I'm not mistaken, that Mod Top bee is the only known A12 car. I talked with the owner back in the early 90s and almost traded a 71 Super Bee for it.

Well that is hard to say and I think is very dependent on the model.
Take Hemi E Body convertibles. They are all accounted for except one Challenger - at least one is a re-body and one is a recreation.
Then you look at 68 Hemi Chargers. I know of two people trying to track them. One has a list of 75 cars, the other 99. I think the made ~ 450 cars. So your 75% is looking pretty good.
I guess we just need to be thankful for those that made it.

Back in 1982 my brother and I looked at 69 A12 Bee 4 speed EV2 with side pipes. It came out of Oakland, CA. Was by two brothers in Antioch that had THREE FE5 AAR 'cuds's. The car had rust or damage and was in pretty good shape.
Sadly my parents would not lend us the $1300 to buy it. I still remember that argument to this day.

Saw this on the B body forum
Christmas Eve Day was a rough day. It was such a nice day that I was determined to take my survivor 1969 Charger out for a short drive. I was on a four lane blacktop and At the intersection ahead, a truck was on my left and he was signaling to turn right and drive north. As he pulled out, a late model GMC Sierra behind him pulled out at the same time. The young guy who was driving, decided to gun it across all 4 lanes of traffic. His Sierra slammed into my front left fender and our our vehicles' back ends swung around and clapped together. I slid sideways into the ditch. I hit the steering wheel and am bruised/beat up but I walked away, which I am grateful I feel pretty lucky. That being said, the old Charger did well. I was doing 55mph and I'm not sure how fast the other guy was going be he was in a hurry.
This thread makes me sad....seeing all these beautiful cars in that condition. :crying: :crying:

I saw a car once that had very similar damage ... it was stomped by an eighteenwheelasaurus. The 'saurus was turning at an intersection and didn't swing wide enough. The 'saurus' trailer caught an unsuspecting compact wagon's nose, rolling up and over it smashing it to the ground. After the incident the wagon looked very much like this Prowler ... so I think you are correct in your assessment of it being "stepped on"!
I agree, it's not frontal impact damage, more like death from above....
My opinion is they did survive. Windshield appears to be intact.
As for carnage it looks like they drove under the back of something. Raised truck perhaps.

A while back my brother and I went to visit Mom's home in Western Maryland. While there, we decided to take a hike up to the top of the mountain starting from the backyard. Found some cool things while roaming around. We actually made it to the top of the mountain and in the distance we saw a car sitting on the side of a hill.
We go closer and.....
It was a 1969 Roadrunner. 383, four speed. Glad I had a camera handy to prove it was there since I don't remember where we hiked when we came across the car. We had no particular path to follow. What ever road that lead there was long gone and grown over. There is no way of getting it off that Mountain from what I could see. Consider it lost.

Used an image search and found that this car sold at or around 14.5K from S & S Mopar Muscle as a project car. Was a 383 hp vert w some nice options with full docs.

Agree exactly with that sentiment.
Mopar held on to the 1950's styling way too long.
The Exner designs were great looking in 1955 but by 1962, some of the designs were very outdated.
Chrysler fired Exner when sales dropped in 62. The 63 Plymouth was a big improvement over the 62.
I know, but I'd take the 62. It's a bit lighter and you just know it's all business. I kind of either like a 62 or the even more conformist 64's with the great hardtop roofline.

The 62's made great race cars. Those 413's with 13.5 compression hauled in the light body!
I also prefer the 64 Plymouth over the 63 because of that cool roof line.

Back in 81, I had two 71 JH27G1B cars simultaneously. I was 20 and had the E body bug with no escaping it (I'm now on my 9th E). A buddy jumped in the green one which ran insanely well for a 318 3 speed manual. I jumped in my B7 blue and we left the body shop I worked at in Morton IL and headed down I-474 for Peoria. Naturally, we got to playing race cars and exceeded 100 mph. At 105-110 and at the 13 mile marker west bound, he began to lose control from the left lane. Being a slight curve to the right, and him in the left lane leading me by two car lengths, he dropped left rubber into the grass on the median and then over corrected to the right. The last view I saw was him going sideways to the right as he came back on and across my lane in front of me. The rate of speed combined with the heat of the day, cheap tires, and sideways slide, sheared the right rear tire off the rim just before the front end drove head-on into the grassy rise of the overpass, flipping the car in an explosion of dust and dirt. As I flew past, I could hear the engine running wide open while upside down. By the time I got shut down and got out of my car, the engine finally flashed loudly and died. Being one to always refuse seat belts, he not only survived surprisingly, but walked away with a bleeding scalp from road rash obtained during the slide. The next day as we recreated what happened, and dug through the remains, his story matched our findings. The accelerator cable had broken and had stuck in wide open mode and when he panicked and turned the key off, he came back one click too far and not only killed the engine, but locked the wheel on a slight right hand curve in the road. He then panicked again and turned the key back on in attempt to unlock the wheel, foot off the clutch at over 100 mph. Engine started at full throttle during his over correction and hell was then to be paid. I not only thought he was dead, I knew he was. Nothing surprised me more than to see him in a scramble, digging his way out from the shredded top, standing up and shouting "I ***KED UP!" After a drill sergeant styled attack by Illinois State Police, and a lot of lying on our part, the car was towed to a relative's back yard so we could part it out. But before we did, we decided to see if it'd still run. This car not only started with the same battery in it, but it idled without a glitch (by hand and at the carb). Somebody ended up buying the engine and was happy with it (it had 90,000 miles).
My take? Ma Mopar knew she had to protect drivers in a rollover. That windshield frame not only kept him from being crushed, but allowed his quick escape. Trust that frame!
Friendship ended a few years later...over yet another E. This time a 1970 JS27. I'm sad to have seen a green vert 3 speed get taken out by stupidity...on both of our parts. Drive these things safely, fellow members. Young, stupid, inexperienced...guilty.

Same thing happened to me while messing around with a Cuda on the freeway. Cable frayed and when pulled into sleeve it just stayed to the floor. @115 I turned off engine but left it in gear until about 55 then pushed in clutch. Only to have a huge backfire blow thru exhaust. Though for sure I had no bottom end. Luckily all ended well.

I wanted to revisit these pictures because I heard the story from a good friend of the owner today who was next in line, in the burn out box when this happened. It just happened this July in Norwalk.
The car launched real hard slightly down on the drivers side...The rear tire actually caught the factory wheel lip molding as it launched and that trim proceeded to cut away at the rear tire. At the top end of the track, when Ross let off the gas after running a nine second quarter...the tire let go and the car turned right immediately without warning....roughly 130mph into the wall.
Ross broke both legs in the accident. The bones behind the knee caps....He had surgery there in Ohio, but is now back home and has been out of the hospital a few weeks now, but still not putting weight on his legs.
The Hemi survived and I understand he's already been offered good money for it. The car is rebuildable but I'm not sure, at being 64 that Ross wants to bother with it.
I wish Ross ALL THE BEST in his recovery and thank Lloyd Booker for sharing this story with me toady. :andyangel: :worship:

Hope that's not recent. Heading south on Illinois Rte 4 today (about 20 miles east of St Louis) an apparition appeared in the distance of the opposite direction northbound lane. I was trying to make out what it was ... but I couldn't. It was approaching rather quickly and it's shape and form started to become more in focus. What is that ... what the ... it's a freakin' Superbird!! Yep, a B5 blue Superbird zoomed by me going in the opposite direction!! I was more than surprised to see it ... it's been decades since I have seen one "in the wild" outside of a Mopar gathering. Never seen that 'Bird around here before ... and in all likelihood I'll probably never see it again. Sure hope it made it to where it was going okay ... and didn't wind up on that flatbed shown above!

In 70 you could get either the normal chrome mirrors or the Duster type sport / racing mirrors for sure , 1 of my Chargers as well as one of the pink Chargers was coded for it .

Wish I had of known back in the day...When I bought my Superbird it had them on it, but painted black ( I painted them orange with some engine paint the first day I had it :haha:)...So I thought for sure they were added, so I put the proper B Body chrome mirrors on it. I guess I could have checked the BCS :headbang:

That's the 1-of-2 Hemi convertible as found in Quebec, it was re-restored recently by GYC...
A friend of mine had a chance to buy it around Fall 1972, but he passed as a Hemi convertible would not be a good driver in the Winter... He did get a 70 A66 sunroof Challenger, which he still owns...
Here is a pic of the other one, which also went through Quebec at one point and was caught in a flood in a garage!

Seeing the buckled roof. This one brought back memories of an accident my mom luckily survived many years ago. Sandwiched between 2 drunk hits. Head on drunk. Then rear ended by another drunk that never hit his brakes...
Fyi head contusion and broken arm.
Late 60s Rambler (in the 80s). The only remaining piece that was not severely buckled including roof was the passenger door.
My best friends Dad was killed in a head on collision back in 69 driving a Chrysler wagon , he almost lost his mom too , he was 10 years old

I actually did that once , I turned a corner with a 45' trailer , cars were illegally parked on the apex of the corner , Ran the trailer wheels over the hood of a sunbird , then it was a Done bird !! Of course the cops charged me as I was the moving vehicle But the judge sided with me that the cars were illegally parked preventing my exit & charged the owner of the sunbird instead !! The "track" doesn't let you race unless you sign a "release of liability" freeing them from any liability as of a result of your participation. So ... if you take your car to the track, sign the form, race ... wreck ... and worse yet, damage property and/or hurt somebody other than yourself ... you're totally screwed right? Not only have you damaged your car and YOU will have to pay to fix it ... but you also just opened yourself to being sued for property damages and personal injuries.
For you guys who race your cars at the track, is there some kind of "racing insurance" that you can get added to your policy?? Or are you pretty much just rolling the dice and accepting the risk??

I have never been covered on track but I prepare the cars well before I go , never sure of the other guy tho , this is where Tech has to do their job , I saw one car with worm gear hose clamps holding the steering rack to the chassis :o
I don't know about drag racing but at many road track, HDPE, and Auto-X events you can buy track insurance that covers you for the on track activity. I think it is $100-$150 a day, which isn't real cheap, but cheaper than the alternative. I have a friend who backed his $40,000 BMW M3 into the wall at Road America and he opted out of the track day insurance, so the damage was all on him. Totaled the car. :'(

It really sucks that good cars get parted out. Parts cars have really become a unicorn. Very hard to find.
That 70 barracuda that I sold at carlisle taught me that lesson. I had many people tell me that they had not seen a proper
parts car for years out there. Still, no one wanted to pay more than 1500 for it. Probably 3-4K in parts.
but it was a crappy car, not a white billboard butterscotch car.

Probably a trans cooler would be my guess. Got to get it out front for max cooling effect. :bricks:

It is a rendering after all. Not real.

Back in the day, I had a '68 Super Bee, 383 4 speed, turquoise with a white interior and stripe. It was a pretty car. Later I was moving out of the area, so I sold it to a coworker, Billy, at my old job and left town.
Six months or so later, I get a call from a different coworker, Jon, from my old job. During our conversation he says "did you hear about your old 'Bee??" "No" I reply, "tell me." Jon goes on to tell me how Billy hammered on that car and quickly blew up the 383. Billy then tried to replace it with another engine but could never get it going. Billy then moved to a different home in the area and abandoned the 'Bee curbside in his old neighborhood. After racking up a bunch of parking tickets, it eventually gets towed by the city. The city in turn hands it over to the city Fire Department who then use it as a vehicle fire "training aide." They purposely set it on fire ... and put it out ... over and over ... and over again! Jon said the last time that he saw it, it was nothing more than a melted, twisted, rusted hulk almost unrecognizable as having once been a car. It was a really sad ending to what was a very pretty car. :'(

So according to wikipedia it was a condition for government bailout loan. Truth be told, the engine never was able to reach the fuel economy needed to displace the good ole internal combustion engine. While it could get good fuel economy on the highway, its city mileage was horrible due to need for high rpm idling...siting at a red light killed it.
Now today all mfg are planning to make nothing but battery-electric vehicles in the next ten years. This is despite the fact that right now they are NOT cost effective. ticks me off that the us federal government has a $7,000 tax rebate attached to them. True case of the poor who cannot afford $45,000 + vehicles are funding the rich thru tax incentives.
