It's a numbers matching 340 4 speed. We got it running and went for ride before we disassembled it he was like a teenager it was way cool. The bond between man and machine! Any way it needs everything gone through thinking to do the engine my self stock bore and like 10.5:1 Pistons.

Sorry for the loss of your father, that's never easy. It's very cool that you have taken on the completion of the project Cuda and it's an incredible tribute to your father when it's done. It looks like you are off to an excellent start, you've got a solid car to work on there! Rebuilding these cars is no easy task, there are people on here like Alan (ANLAuto) and many others that have done some incredible things, literally bringing back the dead from what were thought to be lost causes. You're in good hands here, if you have any questions...

What are you going to do this ride? What's the motor going to be built out to? Sticking with 4-speed? Any other upgrades or keeping her close to stock?

Frome here on out I'd like to stick with stock if I can

It'll make things easier, that's for sure. Stacked tolerances on all the aftermarket crap have made things a challenge on my car, way too much aftermarket stuff and it causes a lot of puzzles to be solved, custom fabrication / modification to make everything come together nicely.

I know you said you like to keep her mostly stock.. Just want to throw something out there... If you have your heads worked over so they flow good you could build a stroker motor to increase your displacement to 416".. The biggest benefit of the stroker is the increased duration of the crank eating cam duration, so you can run a larger cam profile and still maintain streetable manners... Pistons providing a nice quench & 10:1 compression, a comp cams hydraulic roller cam like the XR280 or XR286 and you will be well over 400HP with good manners... Top the build with a good carb or the Holley sniper and you are rock & roll...

The 73 340 was not a great engine with lower compression & cast crank so it would make sense to build a stroker with all new parts in the bottom end , from the outside no one will know the difference

I am running a worked over set of Edelbrocks on mine.. They get the job done.. Now if you're talking heads, there are a lot of options these days. I'd give Bob Mazzolini a call and perhaps he can set you up with the parts for your short block, heads, intake etc. and you can have your block machined locally for the build...

You want a well thought out package, this shop, Hughes and a few others have it pretty well worked out. I had mine built by Rich @ Mopar Engine's West before he retired from the business... 475-500HP with streetable manners is pretty doable with the stroker crank. My stroker is milder than my 400HP 340 was and it has 500HP.

First things first!  Welcome to the site and huge condolences on the passing of your father.  I know your pain!    Next, when you visit your cuda again, make sure you take your camera and snap pictures of EVERYTHING!  It will be very helpful when you are asking questions to have pictures of what is there and gives us a visual of the project!

Car looks great!    :slapme5:
Drive it like you stole it . . . And they're CHASING you!
