@Chryco Psycho here's a pic. Does it look like there's a windage tray or is not possible to tell from this? I'm thinking there isn't as it appears to me that there is only one gasket and nothing else. Also, I couldn't find a pad with a VIN stamped in it. What does that tell us about the block? All I know is that it's not original to the car. I have no history on it.

Looks like only one gasket and no tray to me.

The VIN pad is right there in your picture, just scrape all that paint off and maybe you'll find the number...if it's completely blank, it could have been ground off or could have been a replacement block at one point.

Oh, I thought the VIN pad was on the driver's side. I never looked on the passenger's side. Isn't it on the driver's side on a 340?

The vin stamping is behind the engine mount on the passenger side on all engine after 69 in to 60 anyway , there is a series of #s stamped under the drivers side head on the small blocks but it is a build date & specifics on the engine not the vin #
I agree , I do not see a windage tray in there

All V8 engines in our muscle car era at least have the VIN number on the passenger side oil pan rail. 8)

Well I guess I'll order a tray from Summit. I wonder how long that will take to come across the border.  :'(

Will the stroke be 3.75 or 4.15? I suppose I'll have to remove the pan and measure it. My research tells me that 3.75 is the standard stroke so is the 4.15 stroke for a stoker engine?

It's not how long, but how much.... :alan2cents:

Better order the 4.15 stroke one. Go big or stay on the porch the saying goes!

@anlauto there is definitely no number on the pad. If I understand the block numbers correctly this is a 72 block in my 68. A purchased block? A block from some vehicle that they didn't stamp such as an RV?

Well I put in the Summit gasket/windage tray combo and you can see what happened in the pic. This happened at every bolt that I can see although this one is the worst. Yes, it leaks! Now a little background on the install. I couldn't get the pan off because it was hitting on the K member so off to the shop it went and they lifted the motor a bit to get the pan out. This was back in early June, then I was gone for the summer so I'm getting back at it now. I told summit about it and they sent me a new one no charge. @edison1970 Did you have any issue like this? I'd love to see a picture of what yours looks like if that's possible. I think the shop told me they cut the internal tray out of the oil pan so it would be easier to get off. They also researched the proper torque spec for the bolts so I have a hard time believing they are over torqued. Also the tray has metal grommets around the holes which I would think would prevent squeezing it too tight. What are your thoughts on how to handle this? Are these trays no good? If anyone else has experience with them I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks.

Looking at photos of that combo gasket/windage tray at summit, I cannot figure how they got the rubber to bulge at the bolt heads like that.

Only thing I can think of is maybe it was the fit was not correct and the bolt threads were grabbing material as they tightened it down?

There should not be enough material & as you stated... there is a metal grommet at the through holes.

Love to see a photo of that gasket after you get it removed.

Not trying to toss your mechanic under the bus.. but how did they manage to not notice this conspicuous gasket bulge at every bolt hole after just completing the job?

Your last point is a good one. He also put in too much oil, not just a bit at least a quart to much. This shop rebuilt my 340 a few years ago and di an excellent job but it was not this mechanic.
