Found the problem with the carb...the spacer took a weeee bit of heat.

The carb seems to work fine. The intake is not warped at the carb mount. Think I will bolt it back on with no spacer and see if it runs ok?  Still not sure if anything else is hurt.

Rubber freeze plugs are usually a last resort when you can't access the area to put a metal one in. IOW its easier to put in a rubber one than pull the engine to put in a metal one.

Yep that is the reason I had it in there.  At the time I could not get the metal one in.  this teem it was not that much of a problem.

Note to self:  USE AAA!! :D

Never seen a carb spacer like that - must have got pretty darn hot - hopefully everything else is OK!
You can't buy happiness, but you can buy horsepower and that's kind of the same thing.....

Good grief! I've never seen that either!

You should send allstar a picture and ask them to replace it, preferably with an aluminum one this time?

Brads70

I just sent your pictures to a buddy that is an allstar dealer. Curious to see what he says haha

Any idea what the actual temp got to?
Do you have an aftermarket gauge, or just the stock gauge?

I do have an aftermarket gauge, but given there was no coolant in the engine, not sure what it was actually reading...but it was up around 250.
