Randy those fees just floored me ... but the one that really knocked my socks off was the so-called "Affordable Housing Fee of $17,986". What the hell is that?? Kind of ironic calling that exorbitant fee the "Affordable Housing Fee"!! It just piles it on making it essentially "un-affordable"  :headbang:
Cheers!

Tis' better to have owned classic Mopars and lost than to have never owned at all (apologies to Alfred Lord Tennyson)

Now you know why I don't own here anymore.

Prop taxes, fees, special assessments, etc and don't get me started on Prop 13.

I may just beat Wild out of this state.  :haha:

I don't know how some people do it down there.  The prices are out of control.

How we did it in 1980 in Canada. it hasn't gotten much better unfortunately. 440 out, 426 in.

I can beat that.....From the mid-80's until 2000 I did all my work at my parents house, they didn't have a shop or a garage, not even a carport.....I did everything in the backyard or driveway.
I got this car back from the body shop in Oct and did the complete assembly in the driveway in the Winter... :o

That's amazing!  :worship:

Whacked is correct...
That is why so many are leaving. Lived here for over 45 years and for the first time it is a serious consideration to leave.
When so much of the economy here in Cali is supported by so few. There is no win left...

Socialism.... ain't it grand!   You just " think" you actually own your property. And when the ones that still have money left leave..... who will they tax then?  California and Ontario have a lot in common unfortunately.

Yeah it's a great deal for those who got it but everyone else gets to foot the bill.

Another reason why I don't own anymore in Calif.

My favorite line from Brads article:

"In New York, California, Connecticut, Maryland and New Jersey, the top 1 percent pay a third or more of total income taxes. Now a handful of billionaires or even a single individual like Mr. Tepper can have a noticeable impact on state revenues and budgets."

The other problem in Calif and I suspect this is happening on the right coast is that things are getting so expensive that if you are middle class or upper middle class you are getting priced out. You need to be a RSU/ISO millionaire to live here comfortably otherwise whats the use.

One other nail in the Calif coffin is the lovely pension liabilities they decided to hand out are at 93k per person. Now most folks have less than 3k in the bank so you do the math.

Your Dream Home has now become a nightmare......   I gotta get outta California....

Local lumber yard was telling me a small builder of tract homes was at mid 90's K in fees per home before any dirt was touched.
Neighbors well went bad just had a new one drilled 17K did not include electrical. Oh ya California is considering putting water meters on private wells.
Hearing stories of new septic systems in the 35-40 K range. Where we live you can tell where the septic tanks are, they sit slightly above ground and are using pumps for some reason.

Thought prop 13 was necessary.

I had a 1400 sf addition built back in 2010. I must had paid over $20k for permit and school fees. Luckily they don't have an affordable housing fee at that time. I had to limit the size of the addition to avoid the fire sprinkler requirement. The water meter upgrade alone is $8k plus fees plus contractor installation, plus surcharge for a big meter that is a few hundred dollars a month. Also need to hired security company to monitor the fire sprinkler system alarm. They also got me with all the high energy efficiency features like lights, windows, insulation etc that cost me a bundle. At least these have payback in energy saving. They also got me with the sewer backwater valve that I need to install regardless if I am higher and uphill from the street manhole. All because the City has ongoing tree root problem of the aging sanitary piping system in the streets and they want to avoid being sue when system backup.

I lived in CA for close to 50 years and I still love it, even though it changed a lot the last twenty years. You do have to pay to stay.
