Illinois government just issued orders that all restaurants and bars shut down through the remainder of March (at least). Our Kroger grocery store is swamped. All Churches of all denominations ordered closed. There's a hint of a major panic in the air. Just wondering how it is in other members states. The virus? Not that scary. The public reaction? Eerie. The stock market? Horrifying. I've worked and saved my butt off all my working life and am 24 working days from retirement. This just freakin figures.

:iagree:  The people scare me a lot more than the virus.

@Cuda Cody that's PRECISELY where I am. I've had bad colds. I've had flu. This thing seems to land somewhere in the middle of that. People are starting to get very strange around here. It's like a panic trigger is set. That's what worries me. I'm heavily "prepared" in most aspects, so there's that. I figure the final trigger will be when Walmart and grocers get shuttered.

Kevin - Our state and county are going down the same path you described.  Many schools are being closed though the end of April. Local food stores have been cleaned out and are cutting back on open hours.

soundcontrol

Yep. This stupid panic is gonna cause a lot more damage than the virus. Stock market is crashing, companies going out of biz, lots of people is gonna loose their jobs etc.
Not so much panic in Sweden yet, even though sales of TP is going thru the roof, I have no idea why people would stock up on TP??
If a shut down on everything would happen, I would worry more about food and water then wiping my ass....

@Dakota , my wife's a teacher and just got shut down. My high schooler goes to a Catholic HS and they're shut down. My 19 year old just came home from college in Iowa. They shut down. I'm a power grid guy. Critical infrastructure. We won't shut down. I sure didn't see this coming.

@soundcontrol lol. My wife said the same thing when I stocked up on TP years ago. Right now I could sell that stuff like NOS Hemi parts.

I think our countries are shutting EVERYTHING down as a precaution, a lesson learned by the countries like China, Iran and Italy that waited too long. If we are pro-active by shutting everything down, staying home, taking necessary precautions.....maybe we can slow this sucker down and get things under control...

I think it's pretty darn stupid....but what are you going to do....most of us in our age group and our kids would likely survive it, but maybe our parents wouldn't be so lucky...

We currently only have 313 cases in ALL of Canada and they're still shutting down just about everything....it's killing our economy fast......

HOWEVER...I like the cheap Gasoline
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

@anlauto cheap gas is great. And it'll be way cheaper when there's nowhere for anyone to go.

A lot of other illnesses kill a lot more people. I think the current media does a lot of damage to everyday living. My investments are down $100k so far, obviously they will go back up though. It did stop me from buying a nice V-code last week however and that bites.

Great link, always amazed me how funny real life appears with him telling the story..
Same stuff going on in this state..No toilet paper or water on the shelves to buy..My older friends are already in panic mode... Schools, colleges, and sports in general are shut down... I don't remember a time in history with this level of precautions ... Spring Carlisle swap meet is a few weeks away I'm betting there's a real chance it might not happen this year...

7E-Bodies

@RUNCHARGER we are down about the same. Just got off the phone with my investment guy (friend and neighbor) and he reaffirmed that all will settle down eventually. All I can say is I looked at trade futures a couple hours ago. Not good. Was down about 1200 on the Dow. 400 NASDAQ. People are freaking. I'm working on my U code tonight. V is a tad out of reach for my comfort zone right now.

My wife works in corporate banking and she said she has never seen the feds cut lending rates on a Sunday. Supposedly it will keep money flowing during the panic.
