I can't remember if it's got a master spine, I think it dose. the roll pin is not doing anything were you have it now. Take it apart and check it out.

RUNCHARGER

It's got a master spline. There is a slight V ground into the coupler, that is where the master spline is and it must line up with the master on the shaft.

Just for info...
Is the master spline on both upper and lower halves that are split with the dowel groove?
Asking because it is already installed half way in.

Yes it is. Look for the v-groove on the coupler matching the master on the splined rod.

So I took the coupler off and tried to see if it will fit over the steering box which it with some force from the hammer

I imagine it's possible, but it's much easier to attach the column to the coupler first, IMHO, than try and put the small, greased up pieces, into the coupler with it installed on the steering box.  Just my  :alan2cents: having had my column in and out of my car several times.

I've done them that way, it's really no problem other than it's a bit tricky to get the little plate on there permanently.

I got the coupler back on with the steering column but i had to take off the coupler and reinstall it back onto the steering column then reinstall it. I also started sanding down the doors to bare metal so i can fix the old repair and dents.
