So, here we are!
We have gotten the Pixie moved to the house. She had her first bath since before we bought her over 12 years ago. We had started the paint process years ago, and she was dirty from just sitting and waiting all that time. Dust, dirt, and grime building up on her.
We loaded her up on Saturday morning. Had perfect weather for the drive! We drove all the way home. She got unloaded on Sunday and had another perfect sunny day for cleaning her!
We are getting ready for hopefully a PAINT JOB this week and it is all down hill from there!!

No...the Duster will be sporting her numbers matching 318! But...we are giving her a set of electric cut outs to make her sound a little cooler. :haha:
Looks like a solid car.

:bigthumb:
I will do my best to make it , seems like old times too many friends will be there that I have not seen in far too long

UPDATE: As of this morning I have paid the artist to start the artwork for the face of the Pixie Duster!!! :bigmoney: I am on pins and needles as we wait for final artwork, but having this MILESTONE started, I am so PUMPED to get this car going!!! YAY!!!
This is awesome! :clapping:
Going to be fun to see your car come back to life.
The moment we've all been waiting for has FINALLY ARRIVED!!!
THE PAINT JOB IS UPON US!!! Tomorrow we take Pixie away for her Spa Vacation where she will come back with a BEAUTIFUL face lift and ready for her fantastic makeover! All you men must excuse the female excitement of SPA DAY!!! But I'm sure you can all relate to the excitement of a paint job!!
Also, the first renditions of the Pixie have begun, but I will keep her a secret until we have finalized the design!! Forward progress is exciting and we are moving at a fast clip! I'm trying to keep you all posted along every step of the way!! We are so excited!! :veryexcited: :veryexcited: :veryexcited:
ALSO, a big thanks to
@Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1) for bringing us the DANCING BANANA!!!!!!
:woohoo: It's paint time!!!!!
And it was Rev who made the request to bring back the  :clapping:
Pixie, you should work a small dancing banana into the artwork somehow. Sort of like Where's Waldo.
Here's the article the Atlanta Journal-Constitution did on her and the car back in 2006. A few months ago the journalist contacted her to do an update article...so this will be fun!
How cool is that :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
That is awesome! :clapping:
 This is going to be a really fun one to watch come back together.
Awesome!!!...good to see the pixie is back.
I'm so excited!!!!! BUT.... :needphotos: hahahahaha!

Lol! Trust me, she did not weld in shorts and a t-shirt. That was a canned shot for the journalist. She just put the visor on and pulled the trigger. But every time I see the picture I laugh about her "welding attire".
WOW, so COOL.
Back when I was young and dumb, I welded wish a fish net shirt (dont laugh, they were cool back then lol) I learned real quick not to do that again.
I'm SO SORRY to all my fellow friends for keeping all this exciting news away from you!! :sorry:
I know I told you all that we took the Pixie to the paint shop to start getting her makeover! Well since then we have reorganized our inventory, and started painting parts in preparation for her return home! I wanted to update WITH PICTURES!!!
Rev and I swung by the paint shop today and saw some parts with her fresh paint!! We are getting very excited! They are really taking good care of her! They let us know that she will be getting her body coat on Monday or Wednesday of next week. Pixie should be making her return home in the next week or two!!! WE ARE SO EXCITED!!
Rev and XeGnome are getting ready too by helping out with some big ticket items! :bigmoney: :bradsthumb:
So glad that all of you are along for the ride...!! :woohoo: :veryexcited: :drinkingbud:

We're starting to feel like we are annoying the people at the paint shop! Rev and I have been up there at least 4 or 5 times in the last 3 weeks to check on progress! We stopped by yesterday and they were finishing sanding all the old paint from the engine bay and fixing some mud that previous body guys had left on their YEARS ago at an old paint shop, and we suspect it was going into the paint booth either last night or sometime today! I didn't want to go by two days in a row. We just keep dropping in like "Hey guys! We're here for the car!! When will she be finished?!?!?!!?" Fingers crossed- it will be soon!!!
I'M DYING TO BRING HER HOME!! :fingerscrossed: :brainiac: :unbelievable: :crying: So many emotions!!!
I can image how exciting this is for you. Big step forward. Lets us know as soon as you find out it's all painted.

We've removed the rear suspension and cleaning parts for that this week. I also had to paint the underside of the car and conned an old friend into helping me! Mwahaha! So luckily with his help, that only took two days! We should be installing the rear back into the car Saturday!! Whoop whoop!! 106 Days and counting!!!

A family build!!! I like it. It's good to see young blood getting into the hobby. :wrenching:
Last weekend was getting the rear out! Tonight we prepare to put her back in (tomorrow)!!! Covered in paint and rubberized undercoating! The smells of paint thinner and fumes are ...ehh... Intoxicating? :haha:
The rust in the first pic came off the U-bolts in the second!! Wow!!
Also, putting that tape on the body was awful! It physically pained me to do that. Rev had to do it for me!!
The last picture of today was brought to you by Gravity. Spraying while laying is not easy and getting covered in rubber just happens... What goes up tends to splatter all over you when it comes down!
Tomorrow will be a momentous day, rear suspension in, rear wheels on! And getting ready for the front to come on out!! We are on a ROLL!!!

This is what we've done so far...
Removed the rear suspension (we left all suspension on during paint)
Clean/painted rear end
Painted underbody
Undercoated wheel wells
Replaced all hardware in drum brakes
Installed rear end with new leaf springs
Installed gas tank/fuel sender/filler tube
Put rear tires on. Unfortunately, tires are too big ☹️ 275 60/15. Debated getting shackle/hangar offsets, but decided to just get new tires. Going 255 60/15
Removed front suspension
Removed torsion bars
Currently in the process of separating and cleaning all that mess.
Our next steps are to get the new front suspension put together and on the k member.. Connect the engine, torque converter and tranny together. After that...into the engine bay she goes!
Doesn't look like a lot when you put it on paper, but honestly, every spare moment has been in the garage. :looney:
You're doing great! Thanks for the updates.

I must be getting old and senile! I don't recall that at all. Not doubting you at all Neil...I just can't believe I would drive it like that. Well...the new tires are on their way...we'll see how they go. When are you coming up??? :haha:
We had to have the tires ground down while I was there as they were not even close to round i can be there anytime , I can also call for free if I have a phone # to call
remember when I diagnosed the header leak over the phone ?

I love watching this one come together!
Thanks for all the comments! So glad you all are enjoying seeing this rebuild! It's a lot of hard work, but I know how rewarding it will be once she is finished! Almost 12 years after the dream began, and I will be so glad to share it with all who make it to Carlisle (and of course all our online friends who may not make it)! I can't wait!!!   :veryexcited: :cooldance:
Can't wait to see your first YouTube maiden voyage.
Make sure to bring Butterfly stomach pills that day. :D
:iagree:. A video of the first time you start it up and the first drive would be fantastic. :please:
That day will be the most exciting day of my life and I will want as many people to be involved in that as possible!! YouTube video most definitely!! [emoji23][emoji12]

Thanks for checking on us
@MOPAR FANATIC (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/mopar-fanatic_280)! This past week has been all grunt work. We had to get new (255 60/15) tires for the rear. Got them on and they fit nice. We took out the front suspension last week and have spent all of this week taking it all apart, cleaning, painting, pushing out old ball joints and bearings and then pressing in the new. I think we have just about finished with that. Pixie got the inner fenders and wheel wells coated. This weekend we hope to get the engine and tranny hooked back up after 12 long years of separation. Then we'll start getting everything on the engine (power steering, alternator, belts, carb, etc.) and work on getting the front suspension as complete as we can. If we accomplish this, we'll move on to getting everything on the firewall (brakes, wiper motor, blower motor, voltage reg, ECU, etc.) Anything past this is probably pushing it...but we'll see. Here's a couple pics of Pixie working her fanny off.
Fantastic work!!!! :clapping: Incredible how fast it is coming together. :lookatthat: It might be done with plenty of time to spare? :fingerscrossed:
:woohoo:
You guys are an inspiration to us all. :worship:
This week has been SUPER CRAZY for me! Sorry to leave you all hanging! But here we are, Saturday morning! My countdown to Carlisle is 2 months and 28 days!!
Making the push to get everything ready!! Last night was very exciting as we got the K-frame back onto the engine and the engine onto the dolly that Rev put together! This was a bit tricky with the hoist, but now it's on the ground and ready for its transmission!!! We also managed to start getting some preliminary parts onto the firewall! First part back on was the Wiper Motor! Woo!! [emoji12][emoji1319][emoji1303]

Can't wait to see the car lifted up and push that K-member and motor right into place!!!

Nice progress! Not sure if you`ve planned on this or not but running the passenger side brake line across the firewall is a lot easier before the engine and trans are in the way.

Yep! That is next on our to-do list. We ran out of steam today, but got quite a bit done...with a couple steps backwards.
I would try to get the dash & pedals in with all the wiring & brake lines as well before installing the engine
otherwise looking great :bradsthumb:
Looking great! I bet you can't wait to get behind the steering wheel and turn the key. :burnout:

Will do! Today, we got the tranny/TC hooked up with the engine. Got the alternator and power steering pump on to find that we need a 2 pulley alt...so need to pull the single pulley and add another double pulley we had laying around. Getting the single pulley off sounds easy enough but getting the double pulley pressed on looks a bit tricksy.
We also got the heater box on along with the brake booster/master cylinder. Our next step was those brake lines but we all felt exhausted. Won't work on it at all tomorrow...spending Easter with family. So, Monday, we'll get to those brake lines, work on the pedals and dash. It's the electrical that always messes me up. We have her old Harness and a Painless Harness that we bought looong ago. Guess we just need to lay them side by side and just figure it out.
:lookatthat: Very nice! You guys have earned a day off for sure. Enjoy the holiday and thanks for sharing the photos. :clapping:
That's looking really good.
It's really coming together- GREAT progress! Thanks for the update & pictures!!

Wow, great progress! :clapping: When you finish do you want to come to Utah and put mine back together? :haha: Love the pink engine block! BTW, I need a single grove alternator pulley. Interesting in selling yours when you get it off? :D
Very cool.
Definately a standout.
In a good way.
:wrenching: Awesome job guys and gals.keep at it...hope you all had a great easter and time off.
NOW GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!! :haha: :pixiepop: :pixiepop:
I hope everyone else had a wonderful Easter too. The day was very peaceful and we enjoyed the time off spent with family!
But, YES!! Back to work we go! Tonight we put in the brakes lines, which were such a pain in the arse! You gotta man-handle those things for real, or should I say "Woman-handle" those! :haha:
Then we put the 2 pulley alternator back on, dust shield, starter, and the steering gear box on! Good thing I've got some muscles, because 100 ft lbs of torque has to hold that sucker into place! Whew!
Making progress is so wonderful! It helps to have you all cheering us on! Thank you!!

That depends on how quickly we can get the next couple of things done. Still want to build as much of the front suspension while the engine is on the dolly. However the dolly may be in our way, so we'll get done as much as we can. When we pulled the carb/gaskets/hardware out of hibernation, we found we were missing one of the riser bolts...only 3 in the baggie! :pullinghair: Tried Ace...no such luck, but we were looking for the bolt only. I think I'm gonna go back today and see if they have just the 5/16th threaded rod and a nut that would fit through the riser hole. Otherwise, we're waiting for parts in the mail. Tonight, we will take out the old harness and lay it beside this Painless harness we have and see what's what. Hopefully, it won't be the nightmare I have envisioned in my mind and it will be easy-peasy and installed :fingerscrossed: If we can get all this done during the week, the engine will go in on this Saturday...if not, next Saturday.
Glad to see you are making progress!
Let me know if you would like me to look in my bolt bin. I might have it and would mail it to you for free. Can you post a photo and the specs if you want me to look?

I'm having a tough time finding this one, locally or online. Cody, if you have one, that would be awesome! It's a bolt that holds the carb riser to the engine. It is 5/16" 18 thread. The head is a flat head screw type and the diameter is 7/16" . Socket cap bolts don't seem to work because a 5/16" thread will have a 1/2" head. I see some online that have the 5/16" threaded rod with some sort of nut on it, but they don't come short enough. Anyone have any ideas?
Know anyone with a small lathe? If you were closer I could modify a standard screw in about two minutes...
Heres another good option... https://www.mcmaster.com/#91271a581/=1795cc0
:Thud: I was thinking you were looking for a normal carb bolt like the one in this photo. :sorry: I don't have anything like what you need.
Like 1 Wild R/T posted, I think a 12 point or even an allen head bolt would work. Do you have a fastener store near you?
Any industrial hardware store will sell these.
5/16-18 unc low head socket head cap screw.
Pic references smith. But mcmaster carr and grainger are options as well
Mike
Let me check with my local hardware store, they have just about everything . . . will go by there and check! :D

If it was me, I would take the screw put it in a drill, run the drill and put a file to it, make it what ever size you want. Its a poor mans metal lathe.

You should be able to find that quiet easily locally as an allen head bolt.

@YellowThumper (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/yellowthumper_324) Thanks! It really helps when you know what something is called. I found a couple online, however they never specify the size of the head, but it is looking about right. For $1 I think I can go ahead and order one. I just hate waiting for a week for it to get here to see if it is correct.

I deal with industrial supply houses all over the US when doing installs, Five year ago or more I used Fastenal allot, but lately they stock less & only sell in bulk quantities...

They are not my first choice but I have gone there and bought 2-3 fasteners/fittings before. Might be an option in this case, you never know unless you call.....

I would also recommend that you paint the front glass channels black as well.
That'll eliminate any pink contrast showing thru between the dash and the glass in between.
Keep up the hard work. It's really paying off.

Great work! I like the engine color. :iagree: on the rad support blackout. If you are still looking for a nice looking(not stock) water neck, I bought a polished aluminum one from Summit. It uses an o-ring instead of a gasket.

It's a really nice looking piece. I haven't started the engine yet though. My intake manifold is new so the sealing surface is completely flat. I'm not expecting any issues with sealing. The only thing that concerns me is that the thermostat is slightly loose inside the housing. The stock housing holds the thermostat tight. I put some Hi-Tack gasket sealer on the thermostat before installation and it's tight now. I'm not sure if there would be any issue with the thermostat moving around slightly. :dunno:
I have used the aluminum with an O-ring, it's awesome.

Well I've been waiting to hear these cut-outs for a VERY LONG TIME, so please excuse the slow pace of the rest of our restoration. Doors and fenders will be added shortly.

Fixed the blower motor electric gremlin (more ground strap woes :crazytalk: ) so we can put doors on instead of the 2 x 55mph a/c we currently have :bradsthumb:

Very exciting! Coming together nicely! :clapping:
Here we are, possibly the most exciting day for Rev and Me!! We have had these custom seats wrapped in plastic since they came home from being reupholstered!! Such a long time to wait to see our vision come to life!!
This weekend we redid the headliner, we repainted all the panels so they would match, we also repainted all the interior panels black (they were a little worn from several years of storage), we installed the headliner and
@XeGnome (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/xegnome_243) did a great job getting it in place along with all the components to be attached (hanger hooks, visors, and rear view mirror). We installed the package tray, trunk separator, jute, carpet, sail panels, quarter windows, drip rail molding, weatherstripping, and of course those beautiful seats!!
Piece by piece , nice work !! :wowzers:
Oh my gosh you are sooooo close. Looking really good too.

This pic is hilarious if you know what is going on... All of us had worked on the car 10 straight hours on Saturday and 9 hours at the point of this picture on Sunday. After we finally got the rear seat in, Pixie, of course had to try it out. Then she invited me to try it out. As we sat there, we thought it would be a great idea to try out the stereo Xe had put in, so Pixie cranked up her Pandora and we sat there and listened to some tunes for a while...which turned into about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Xe continues to work and get quite a few things done as we are oblivious. In this pic, you can see him inside the trunk continuing to work on hiding all the amp wiring as we sit and enjoy the fruits of our labor....until guilt set in and we had to get out.
:haha: :bigthumb: That's great.

Well done, Heather, Laura und XeGnome...an excellent build!!! :perfect10: And things accomplished by oneself always have a special value! A lot of youngsters getting a new car "sponsored by Daddy", but having built a car on your own is what's earning respect to others and yourself.
Stylewise I agree with Alan: some white sidestripe - custom designed or stock - would be cool, me personally would also add some white hood-treatment ("318wedge") and a white sticker/enblem on the trunklid ("Duster"). :alan2cents:
Carlisle 2017 is coming true for you! :happybday:

After going through this entire thread I have come to a few conclusions...
1. This is a great site, there is a ton of support and great people.
2. Pink Mopars are kick ass!
3. Pink Mopars with white interiors kick even more ass!
4. Pink Mopars with white interiors and Cragars, what can I say
5. This car absolutely is awesome and a huge congrats! Well done.
6. Did I mention I like FM3?
7. Pink Mopars with white interiors, built and owned by a pretty young lady kick the most a$$! :bigthumb:
Thanks everyone! So many nice and thoughtful comments! You guys really know how to make someone feel special! There have been so many ups and downs on the Pixie Duster's roller coaster ride through life and we are finally nearing the end where we can finally enjoy it! It's hard to believe that just a few months ago- it will actually be 5 months to the day of Carlisle- that we started picking up parts and bringing the Pixie home to finish her journey! I'm amazed that we were able to share her story with everyone and to have so much support really means a lot! Thank you! A few more tweaks here and there, and we'll be on our way to CARLISLE!

We took her out last night for a 10 mile test drive. The steering wandered and when we got back the gear box was leaking. We also found a oil leak that we think was coming from the rubber banana gaskets in the pan.. So this morning CP removed the steering gear box and dropped the oil pan. We are now in the process of putting the oil pan back on. CP already has the new gear box in. It's been a long few days, but very rewarding! We won't need to push her to Carlisle....she'll be ready...thanks to CP! :worship:

Dang cars. It doesn't seem to matter how careful you are or who rebuilt the parts, always teething problems and leaks.
Yup. Actually - though aggravating, these weren't all that bad.
Congrats on build pixie!!! And cool that CP was there!
I am so happy for you both! Looks like fun for sure! Glad CP got there to help out! Nicely done!
:clapping:
Sweet!
Pixie has her Wings.
Fly Pixie Fly.
Nice to see it out and about.
Great to see it out and about. Like Alan said I think it would look great with a white side stripe!
Thanks for letting us follow along and feel like we're part of it.

Nothing too terrible. We just noticed a few things during the days drives about town.
1: still had an oil leak, but this one was from the oil pan drain plug (thankfully).
2. The car got grumpy when trying to start her while she was hot. CP thought it was the exhaust crossover ports in the intake manifold that needed to be blocked off. Hence her "naked" pictures. :o
3. We heard an exhaust leak...turns out we blew out an exhaust gasket.
4. The starter was not acting right, so we replaced it.
Back on the road again. Can't thank CP enough! What an awesome human being! :thankyou:
All better now... we will keep her off the tequila till Carlisle! :))
Just constant fixes & debugging , I think I have had every major component apart except the diff now !!
Just issues with everything , today alone had to fix leaks from exhaust , oil pan , had to block the heat crossover , just boiling the fuel in the carb , would not start hot . Working on keys & locks ,
We had the starter checked & was given a clean bill of health & then it got grumpy , so now it has a mini starter on it .
Plugs are cleaner than new so now I get to start tuning for real now that the harder work is seemingly completed & it is running way too lean !
yesterday was oil pan leaks , new power steering box & numerous other fixes , I have lost track of everything we have had to work through !!
What timing are you running at all in?
Sometimes starters will "check" fine, but as soon as the brushes get super hot they don't turn over very well.... as I'm sure you know. The mini starter will probably solve it anyway.
The timing is set exactly where it sounds right as usual !!
The starter would not even click last night , it had been sitting over 1 hour & was cool . I convinced it to work to get it home , it is now out & replaced !! :slapme5:
Nice work CP, new cars=new bugs. It always seems to take a bit of effort before they are bulletproof.
Went to Summit Racing tonight for their Monday Night Cruisin' and Pixie won her FIRST AWARD!! "2017 Monday Night Cruisin' Cool Cruiser Award"

:haha: he has had his fair share of root beer, but he was actually relaxing in a chair for the first time in a week. He's put in several 16 hour days working out all the little gremlins (and a couple not so little gremlins).
Last night the Pixie ran the best she has ever run and today we have a very short list of things to do. Tonight...dinner with
@RV2 (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/rv2_611) and a chance to see his Roadrunner!
Congratulations! The grin says it all.
Congrats!!! The car looks great and sounds like she is running great too!
I found it usually take between 500-1000 miles to get one fully sorted out. Sometimes it's a matter of small things overlooked or due to things being painted. The main one usually comes down to defective parts. Just because you replaced it with new doesn't matter. After a couple hundred miles i usually try and go over every nut and bolt. It's funny that when I being very careful building one I still manage to find something I didn't tighten during my inspection. :unbelievable:
Very exciting! You guys did a great job with the time allotted! Certainly worthy of 2 thumbs up!

We are driving the Pixie to Carlisle. We have put over 200 miles on her this week with nothing but minor issues. I figure we have a box of spare parts and Chryco with us...we should be good! :haha:

More guts than I have heading out on such a big trek with a fresh build. Hell I'm still paranoid heading to town yet. Had a coil die on my Cuda pulling it off the alignment rack. :verymad: I wish you all the best of luck on your trip! :bigthumb:

I know he hates BFGs and this is my second set that has given me troubles. No more BFGs for me!
That does suck! Wonder if they were some old stock that had been sitting. I have been running them forever and never had a failure other than loosing the tread rapidly. :burnout: I'm happy you all made safe.
The only real use for BFG's is to put on the rear and burn off in a large cloud of white smoke!!!
:)

Great job guys and it was fantastic meeting you all. Laura, thanks for the kind words when I said good bye to you. That meant a lot to me.
The Pixie Duster is winning everywhere she goes!!!! Well deserved. :perfect10: :1place: :perfect10:
It WAS nice to meet Laura and Heather with their car and it was also nice to be able to meet Neil (CP) and watch as he became re-acclimated to Panama-like temperatures as he swapped out the fan on the Duster with his $10 swap meet score. LOL :bigthumb:
Anyone get a photo of the master working on the Pixie Duster on the show field with Swap meet parts? :takepicture:

It was really great meeting everyone at the show! We just walked in the door after a 14 hour drive. We are so tired! I'll post more tomorrow.

Yes thanks for picking up the radio.
So whats the latest on the Pixie-Duster :notsure: Been quiet lately. :rebelflag"
Made the trip all the way to & from Carlisle with no issues .
Just 2 bad BFGarbage tires that slowed us down .
Couple of minor fixes left to finish before I left but otherwise running well .
That all the Info I have
The $25 Year One gift certificate I won in the parking lot at the hotel I immediately gave to Laura .
We used this for a new Speedo cable ,as Pixies was damaged, as soon as we got back to Atlanta & by tuesday it was installed ,but the speedo heads needs to be cleaned & lubed still , I ran out of time before I left .
I know they have had it out a couple of times since & it is still running great .
Thanks for the gift certificate Cody & Year One , I felt it was the least I could do to win one of them for them !!
Pixie has been out and about a few times since Carlisle. My boyfriend came to visit for several weeks and we took her to a drive-in movie in Atlanta. It was nice and felt like she belonged there! :bigthumb:
I've been to London since, and just got back this week. Rev and Xegnome have taken her out a few times and she runs like a champ. Hopefully in the winter she will still act right and can take her to a few more drive in movies and car shows.
