His photo shows turn down exhaust in front of the axle.
Someone just wanted a cheap and loud exhaust.

The OP is in Australia.  Was the car originally sold in California?
Does it have the fuel evap pieces?
Was it just recently shipped to 'the land down under' or has it been there a while?

The car was a Cal sold and delivered car, has all the emissions gear on it and all the evap pieces. The guy who i bought it off a few months ago brought the car in in 2011 and has been sitting in his factory till i got it. He has a serious collection of E bodies and a few  original hemi cars.I only got the car cause i know him and he knew i was looking at getting a new project. The rear valance panel has no exhaust cut outs and is original to the car so i assume the car had exhaust turn downs just as my Cal delivered 70 Dodge Charger R/T 440 4 speed has.

Well a big day today, after 13 years the 383 is alive and running. The engine is really good with no noises and great oil pressure. The original holley is getting a kit  and the starter is getting replaced with a mini and the alternator needs checking. Holds water and no leaks. When i pull the engine it will get a good clean up and repaint with new gaskets. Carn't get over how well it runs.

Fitted up my lhr trunk drop off section today Came out ok as there are no trunk drop offs in Australia at the moment . Start on the other side tomorrow and then i will make up the lower quarter panel pieces and weld them in .

Katfish

Nice, so you're going to hand form that outer section?

F8R/T

Yes , i will take it easy but i do not think it will be that hard, the old saying measure twice and cut once .

Well i finished making up the outer lower quarter panel patch. The metal was pretty thin a long way up but i got it done.Laid some filler on it and it's not bad at all considering there was nothing left of the original metal, just sprayed some cheap primer on it for and finish it properly when it's in high build. Then i was poking around the rear of the rh side rocker panel and found some nasty rust so that was cut out also. Found some average repairs in some places but i can deal with that . I have cut out all of the rust so i am pretty happy.

Moving along nicely.  :bigthumb:

Great project! And nice body work, love the pictures.

Removed the paint off the trunk lid and found a couple of dents so they got fixed . the lid is just painted in cheap primer which i will remove when getting ready for body prep and paint. the car has been painted twice and the paint is thick with a black primer which is real stubborn to remove.Took off the lower vinyl top molding and the vinyl top fixing plate , all the metal is real good.Removing more paint tomorrow to see what's under there, maybe more surprises but overall no further rust .

F8R/T

Here is the roof to rear quarter panel join , no rust and it had bog in there . I thought that the seam was lead wiped?. I will prime the area first and use filler.

RUNCHARGER

Clean body on this car. Vinyl roof cars used some kind of cheap sealer/cheap bondo on those seams. One of the things we can do better when rebuilding them.

Well i started to remove the paint off the top of the rear quarters today and found a couple of very ordinary repairs. Right rear quarter was knocked in about  1/2 inch and just filled up with filler , all they had to do was hammer and dolly the dent out and a little bit of filler and it will be good.Left rear wheel arch had a dent on the lip so i need to address that and i removed the paint off the left door and i have to remove this stubborn black primer off but the door is great , no dings.and i repaired the bottom of the left fender which had a couple of small dents that were hard to see with the paint oN,
time consuming job removing the paint but i don't mind. Winter down here now and it's a bit fresh in the shed in the morning.
